Good morning, Giddings! ☀️

Lauris has completed the City’s peddler permitting process, which includes passing a background check. He’ll be going door-to-door throughout Giddings selling study guides and books for K–12 students through Tuesday, August 25th.

When you see him around town, please give him a warm Giddings welcome!

Due to the large volume of southbound traffic backing up on N. Main St. during peak school hours, the Giddings Police Department is requesting drivers’ assistance in alleviating the backup and keeping traffic flowing as smoothly as possible. During the hours listed below, we are requesting that southbound drivers on N. Main St. (Hwy 77) NOT attempt to make a left-hand turn onto East Independence. Stopping at this intersection to turn left is causing other southbound traffic to back up significantly. We are requesting that drivers needing to go eastbound on Independence continue south to Hwy 290 and make a left turn at that intersection.

PLEASE AVOID TURNING LEFT ONTO E. INDEPENDENCE during these hours:
• 7 am-8:30 am (morning drop off)
• 12 pm – 1pm (lunch)
• 3 pm – 4pm (afterschool pick up)

The City Pool will be closed on Sunday, July 19th. Normal hours will resume on Monday, July 20th.

The last day the pool will be open this summer is Sunday, July 26th.

12:30 am Update: Power has been restored. Thanks again for your patience!

11:45 pm Update: Estimated time for repairs to restore power is 1.5-2 hours.

We are aware of a widespread electrical outage. Crews are working diligently to restore power. We appreciate your patience and will give updates as we are able.

Paxon Energy & Infrastructure, a third-party contractor for CenterPoint Energy, will be in the area conducting inspections on CenterPoint Energy meters. These inspections are part of routine maintenance to ensure the safety and reliability of natural gas infrastructure. Residents may notice personnel working near gas meters throughout the community during this time.

The city pool will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, June 10th. We know this may be disappointing, especially since the pool has been so busy and well-used this summer, and we appreciate everyone’s understanding. The safety of our patrons is our top priority, and we cannot operate without adequate lifeguard coverage.

The pool will reopen on Thursday, June 11, during normal operating hours.

Thank you for your patience and support. We look forward to seeing everyone back at the pool on Thursday!

The splash pad will remain open during its normal hours.
