It Isn't Just Memory

When people think about Alzheimer's, they often think first about forgetting. But some warning signs can look very different.

Someone may begin having difficulty:

• Planning or solving problems
• Completing familiar tasks
• Keeping track of time or place
• Understanding visual images or spatial relationships
• Finding the right words when speaking or writing

Changes like these don't automatically mean someone has Alzheimer's. But when they are new, persistent or interfere with everyday life, they are worth paying attention to.

Knowing what to watch for can help families recognize when it's time to start a conversation.

We all forget things sometimes. A name. An appointment. Why we walked into a room.

But memory loss that begins to disrupt everyday life is different.

The Alzheimer’s Association lists memory loss that affects daily life as one of the 10 warning signs of Alzheimer’s. That might include forgetting recently learned information, repeatedly asking the same questions or increasingly relying on others for things a person once handled independently.

Knowing the signs isn't about assuming the worst. It's about knowing when it may be time to have a conversation and talk with a doctor.

He doesn't care what job you had. She doesn't care how much money you made.

They really don't care whether you can still drive, whether walking has become difficult or if you don't get out of the house as much as you once did.

Your dog still thinks you're the greatest person who has ever lived, and your cat still thinks the house belongs to her, while graciously allowing you to remain of course. 😂

For some of our home-delivered meal clients, a pet isn't just a pet. It's the one who gets up with them in the morning, and is the one waiting beside their chair. They are the one they talk to during the day, and makes an otherwise quiet house feel like a home.

📞 After a disaster, you may receive urgent calls or messages saying your insurance payment is overdue.

Don't panic.

Instead:
• Contact your insurance company directly through the number you have, not one provided to you from an unknown caller.
• Never give banking or credit card information to someone who contacted you unexpectedly.
• Be cautious of pressure to "pay now."

Taking a few extra minutes could save you thousands.

Before giving:
✔️ Research the organization.
✔️ Be cautious if asked to pay with cryptocurrency or unusual payment methods.

We want to say a huge thank you to Classic Bank in Giddings for their generous donation to our Senior Nutrition Program!

Lori Markert recently presented the donation to our Senior Nutrition Program Director Buck, but what makes this gift really special is that it is part of a larger spirit of giving. Every Wednesday, Classic Bank employees can make a donation for the privilege of wearing jeans to work. Each cycle, they choose a different organization to receive the money they have collected and this time they chose Meals on Wheels Rural Capital Area!!

Their incredible kindness will help us to continue providing meals and support to seniors throughout our communities.
