🚨A strong thunderstorm will impact portions of southeastern Williamson, northeastern Bastrop and central Lee Counties through 7:00 PM

At 6:08 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm near Fedor, or near Lexington, moving west at 20 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and nickel size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor damage to outdoor objects is possible.

Locations impacted include...
Lexington, Tanglewood, Fedor, Knobb Springs, Blue, Leo, Old Dime Box, McDade, Lincoln, Butler, Cedar Hills, and Manheim.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

If outdoors, consider seeking shelter inside a building.

Frequent cloud to ground lightning is occurring with this storm. Lightning can strike 10 miles away from a thunderstorm. Seek a safe
shelter inside a building or vehicle.

Lee County Commissioners Court – Burn Ban Remains In Effect

During today’s regular meeting, the Lee County Commissioners Court voted to extend the current Burn Ban through 28 September.

All outdoor burning remains prohibited until that date. Conditions are still dry and fires can quickly get out of control.

EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM TONIGHT

Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures up to 107 and heat index values up to 105 are expected this afternoon.

Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, stay in the AC as much as possible, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.

❗BURN BAN ISSUED EFFECTIVE AUGUST 21, 2026 ❗

Lee County has enacted a temporary burn ban due to elevated fire danger from high temperatures, critically low humidity, and ongoing drought conditions. All outdoor burning is prohibited with limited exceptions.

HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM THURSDAY TO 7 PM SUNDAY

A heat advisory has been issued, with temperatures expected to reach 104°F and heat index values of up to 110°F.

The advisory will be in effect from 2 PM Thursday to 7 PM Sunday, during which time hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to heat-related illnesses.

To mitigate the risks, it is essential to take the following precautions:

* Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
* Remain in air-conditioned rooms whenever possible.
* Avoid direct sunlight and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
* Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
* Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and take immediate action if they occur.

For those working outdoors, take regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911 if necessary.

The Lee County burn ban remains lifted. However, fire danger is elevated due to hot temperatures and very low humidity. Please use extreme caution with any outdoor burning and always follow state outdoor burning rules.

❗ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE – Precinct 2❗

County Road 216 between FM 448 and CR 217 will be CLOSED for paving operations:

📅Monday, August 17 through Wednesday, August 19
🕗8:00 AM – 5:00 PM each day

The road will reopen each evening around 5:00 PM.

Plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Drive carefully and watch for construction personnel and equipment.
