Meet Dean.
Back in 1963 a dedicated group of local residents came together to form Lakeland Fire Department, a volunteered driven department born from their own efforts and personal investments. Faced with rising safety concerns and lacking fire service in the area the founding members pooled their resources - using their personal savings to create a department that could respond to emergencies and protect the community. The first thing they purchased with their own hard earned money was a pumper truck.
With no external funding, they purchased essential equipment and trained a team of passionate and skilled volunteers ready to serve. These men are a model of how determination, sacrifice, and a sense of civic duty can create something vital.
Their work didn’t stop at firefighting. They also offered education on fire prevention, collaborating with neighbouring communities to expand resources and provide first responder services in a region that often lacked adequate emergency coverage.
Dean is the only living member of the original 11 men that formed Lakeland Fire Department. He served as a firefighter for 22 years and EMS for 9 years.
Recently, he asked us to recreate a logo and make a handful of embroidered hats for today’s crew. Although Dean has lost his vision due to age, He was very specific on how he wanted these hats to look. We worked hand in hand with him to bring his vision to life with these hats.

Proud to call this cool guy my bonus grandpa. ❤️
