🧯 Fire Extinguisher Safety Tips

Portable fire extinguishers can help with small, contained fires, but they are only one part of a fire response plan.
Your top priority should always be safe escape.

Only use a fire extinguisher if the fire is small, not growing, the room is not filled with smoke, the fire department has been called, and you have a clear exit behind you.

Remember PASS when using a fire extinguisher:
Pull the pin
Aim low at the base of the fire
Squeeze the lever
Sweep side to side

Choose a multi-purpose extinguisher for your home, learn how to use it before an emergency, and install it near an exit for safe access.

🚨 Fire extinguishers are a tool — not a guarantee.
Every home should have working smoke alarms and a fire escape plan.
If a fire grows or smoke fills the room: get out immediately and call 911.

12/13 and 12/14 SANTA RUN POSTPONED

With the forecasted below zero wind chill temperatures on Saturday 12/13 and Sunday 12/14 and with the utmost safety concerns for the residents of the Fire District, along with the volunteer Elves and on-duty fire crews, the Rutland Dundee Firefighters Association has decided to postpone the scheduled Santa Run and rescheduled it to the following weekend. Saturday 12/20 and Sunday 12/21 with both dates starting at 3 pm.
Please consider donating any planned donations to an area food pantry, if unable to participate in this year’s event.

🎅🚒 The Rutland-Dundee Firefighter’s Association presents the 2025 Annual Santa Run & Community Food Drive!

Since 1973, Santa has been riding along with our firefighters to spread holiday cheer and collect donations for local families in need. This year, we’re once again teaming up with our families, friends, and local elementary school staff to make sure everyone gets a visit from Santa himself—young or old!

📍 Santa’s Schedule & Neighborhood Routes:

December 5 – 5:00 PM
Frontenac, Little’s Acres, Binnie Rd., and The Conservancy

December 6 – 3:00 PM
Sleepy Hollow (West of Sleepy Hollow Rd. & Hickory Hollow)

December 7 – 3:00 PM
Sleepy Hollow (East of Sleepy Hollow Rd.)

December 12 – 5:00 PM
Indian Trails, Dunhill Estates, Gilberts Glen, Woodland Meadows, Country View Highlands, Lake Tara, Pine Cone

December 13 – 12:00 PM
Timber Glen & Timber Trails

December 14 – 3:00 PM
Old Town Gilberts, Gilberts Town Center & Windmill Meadows

🎁 What We’re Collecting:
• Non-perishable food items
• New toys (no clothing this year, please)

📦 Donations will support:
🔹 FISH Food Pantry (Carpentersville) – helping feed 6,000+ families
🔹 Community Crisis Center (Elgin) – housing 40+ women & children
🔹 D300 Food Pantry – serving District 300 families & staff

🌦️ Weather Notice:
If schedule changes are needed, updates will be shared on our page and the Fire District’s & Union pages.

💙 All donations collected during the Santa Run will help us upgrade the District’s Cold Water Rescue Suits and frontline emergency equipment.
