NEXT STOP ... RETIREMENT!
We couldn't let Transportation Supervisor Harold Ives go without thanking him one last time before his official retirement from GMU!

Superintendent Heather Wilcox and a group of staff members surprised Harold with another special retirement cake during a Friday night dinner with his wife at Sundown Golf & Country Club in Bainbridge.

SAFETY PATROL BOTTLE DRIVE SEPTEMBER 8
The GMU Raiders Safety Patrol will host a Bottle Drive on campus from noon-8:00 p.m. September 8. Our KRAZY 8 Redemption LLC will be on site to collect refundable bottles and cans during the drive, which will run the same day as our Open House ( 5:00-7:00 p.m. September 8 ).

Our youngest Raiders learned a lot and had tons of fun last week during GMU's Bridging Program for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students! Special thanks to Rebecca Fuller and Bethanie Weand for taking and sharing pics. :)

UNITED, WE STAND!
Our faculty and staff members were all smiles this evening as we welcomed newcomers and reconnected with colleagues during GMU's "Raiders Unite Picnic" at Copes Corners Park.

This annual bring-a-dish-to-pass event gave our school community and their families an opportunity to get together to celebrate the start of a brand new school year and our 2026-2027 theme, "Dare to Discover, Decide to Shine."

Thanks to Cafeteria Manager Susan Sebeck for preparing delicious sausages with peppers and onions, hot dogs, and corn on the cob for the main course, and to everyone who provided traditional picnic dishes, sides, snacks, drinks, desserts and other goodies. Special thanks to Hanehan Family Dairy in Mount Upton for donating loads of sweet corn for all to enjoy!

THE JOURNEY STARTS HERE!
Our Bridging Program officially started Tuesday as GMU welcomed Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students to campus!

Led by Superintendent Heather Wilcox and Interim Principal Randy Smith (far right), our Bridging staff is here to help the newest members of our learn what to expect when they start school in September. The program focuses on developing academic and social skills through fun activities designed to make children feel more confident as they transition from home to school.

STATE HONORS TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES!
Congratulations to Gilbertsville-Mount Upton athletics for earning one Scholar-Athlete Team Award and 19 individual honors from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association for the 2026 Spring Sports season!

Our varsity girls track and field program qualified as an NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team with 75 percent of its roster achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 90 during the spring marking period.

The NYSPHSAA also honored student-athletes who earned a GPA of 90 or better during the spring with Individual Scholar-Athlete awards, regardless of whether their team qualified for the team award. Twelve members of the Raiders’ girls track and field team were recognized individually, as were seven boys track and field student-athletes.

Overall, the NYSPHSAA recognized 3,182 Scholar-Athlete Teams and 48,767 Individual Scholar-Athletes across the state this spring.

OPEN HOUSE SEPTEMBER 8!
Gilbertsville-Mount Upton invites students and their families to our Open House from 5:00-7:00 p.m. September 8!

You can meet teachers, staff and school/community partners, tour the campus, learn about bus routes, pick up MS/HS schedules, and bring supplies to lockers and classrooms during our Open House, which will take place two days before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.

Open House also will feature a Dinner Fundraiser sponsored by Community Bank to benefit our Board of Education Student Scholarship Fund. Payment is by donation for the dinner, which includes hamburgers, hot dogs, water, and chips.

We hope to see you September 8 at GMU, where the counts!

SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION STREAK HITS 8!
Superintendent Heather Wilcox announced today (August 10) that Gilbertsville-Mount Upton has earned a Brilliant Pathways School of Distinction Award for the eighth consecutive school year!

“I am incredibly proud to share that we have been recognized as a 2025-2026 Brilliant Pathways School of Distinction,” Wilcox said. “Our school community is dedicated to ensuring that every student is supported, challenged, and prepared for future success. Being named a School of Distinction by Brilliant Pathways validates the outstanding efforts taking place across our district and highlights the positive impact of the programs, relationships, and experiences we provide for our students.”

Schools of Distinction are recognized for their commitment to Brilliant Pathways’ college and career readiness framework by developing and implementing an exemplary plan for its scholars while engaging the entire school community. These plans have helped 90-percent of participating students pursue higher education.

“This award is a tribute to GMU’s commitment to its students, evidenced by integrated practices for Brilliant Pathways Scholars and its successful implementation of the 10-Point College & Career Readiness Plan across the entire school community,” Brilliant Pathways Pathways CEO Tara Smith wrote in an official commendation letter to Wilcox. “Your dedication to creating a path of opportunity for all students is inspiring, and it embodies the core of our Brilliant Pathways mission. This recognition is a testament to your collective efforts.”

Brilliant Pathways, which supports 15,000 students through partnerships with 150 rural and urban K-12 schools and districts across 10 states and Ireland, recognized 26 Schools of Distinction for the 2025-2026 school year. GMU is one of seven 2025-2026 Schools of Distinction from New York’s Leatherstocking Region, joining Cooperstown, Milford, Otsego Area Occupational Center, Owen D. Young, Richfield Springs and Worcester. Brilliant Pathways has honored GMU as a School of Distinction every school year since 2018-2019.

“On behalf of the entire district, I extend my sincere gratitude to everyone whose dedication contributed to this achievement,” said Wilcox, who became GMU’s Superintendent in 2025-2026 after serving 13 years as Principal. “This honor belongs to all of us, and we look forward to continuing the important work of helping every student thrive.”

As a School of Distinction, GMU will receive an award to display in school and be formally recognized for its accomplishments during the Brilliant Pathways annual Symposia this fall.

A very important informational meeting for girls interested in playing varsity or junior varsity basketball this winter for our merged UV/GMU program is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. today (August 10) at Unadilla Valley’s auditorium. A Fall Sports Meeting for parents/guardians of GMU and UV student-athletes is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Tuesday (August 11) at the UV Auditorium.
