Gilbertville Public Library

Gilbertville Public Library Gilbertville Public Library began in 1876 with a Literary Society, opening in 1882 above the Upper Mill. The limestone building was built in 1911–1912.

It remains a staple of the Village of Gilbertville, a haven for bibliophiles and community activities.

We've got something new at the library!

Puppets!

And all they need is a little magic and a helping hand to come to life for an impromptu puppet show. What will the opossum do? What does the fox say? Come check them out and narrate a story with a lovely lion. We're looking forward to seeing many puppet shows from our patrons, young and old.

We are celebrating the birthday of Springfield author Dr. Seuss who was born March 2, 1904.

Do you know his real name? Here's a hint: his initials are T.G.

Have you stopped at the library to check out his stories:
Tales of Marvin K. Mooney and Cindy Lou Who -
of Yertle and Red Fish and W***y Waterloo?
Reading his books is always a good time
And they're fun to recite because many words rhyme.

Come on by this week and check out our incredible Seuss-like entry. We've got new things happening and maybe you can spend some time working on a rhyme, too!

Something new! Come on by and take advantage of this free screening. Good health is priceless!

We've undergone some changes recently and we're gearing up for 2026 with new ideas, programs and plans. We'd love to hear your ideas on how we can better serve your needs as a reader, writer, crafter and community member.

How do you use the library?
What can we do to improve our service to the community?
Do you have a craft you can teach or share?
Do you need a space to host a small event or meeting?
Do you have time or a skill to donate as we work to improve our space?

Come on in, get a library card, meet our staff, share your hopes and dreams for the library and join the fun.
