UPDATE: 07-09-2025 *** The boat ramp has reopened ***

State Boat Ramp in Gill will be closed and locked the Morning of Monday July 7th, 2025.

Early next week FirstLight will begin repairs to the Turners Falls Dam Bascule Gate #2, requiring a drawdown of the Turners Falls Impoundment upstream of the Turners Falls Dam that is likely to beach boats and docks along the river. FirstLight is making every effort to maintain water levels over the weekend to allow boat and dock owners to remove or adjust their vessels and structures before the drawdown.

FirstLight also expects that boat-based recreation and navigation on the river will be significantly inhibited for the duration of the drawdown and associated repair work. The company has consulted with state and local public safety officials and urges community members and recreation users to avoid the river during the drawdown, as the riverbed will be wet, presenting a sinking hazard.

At this time, FirstLight expects the work will take 1-5 days, though it may take longer for the river to return to normal levels should the flows remain low, as they are now.

From the Office of Fishing and Boating Access:

The Connecticut River, Gill (Barton’s Cove) State Boat Ramp facility will be temporarily closed for construction beginning Monday, October 7th, 2024. The Pavement Resurfacing work is expected to take approximately 2 weeks, but is weather dependent. The parking lot and state boat ramp will be Closed to Public Access and all Special Use Events.

The Northfield boat ramp will be open and available during the Gill ramp's closure. The OFBA will reopen the Gill boat ramp after construction is complete for the remainder of the boating season.

TRAFFIC ALERT:

During the evening hours of Saturday July 27th, Riverview Drive will be closed to VEHICLES between the intersections of Oak Street and Pine Street. This area normally sees heavy pedestrian traffic during the Christmas on the River Fireworks and Parade of Boats show sponsored by the Franklin County Boat Club Inc. The road will be temporarily closed to provide a safe viewing area, and will reopen after the event is over. The parade of boats will start around dusk with fireworks following the parade.

Also a reminder that alcoholic beverages are not permitted on town property/streets in accordance with town by-laws.

Limited parking maybe available behind the Riverside Municipal building at #54 French King Highway (aka Rt. 2).
