🛑Weather Alert🛑
All South Creek residents please be advised, we are expecting flooding tomorrow, Friday 8/9/2024, due to the remnants of Tropical System Debby moving through our area. Here is what we know as of now:
•Rain is expected to move into Bradford County around 8 a.m. with a heavy band over the western part of the County.
•Flash flooding is the main concern with this system. With the ground already saturated and projected rainfall totals of 3 to 4 inches with rates able to reach 1 inch per hour, flash flooding is expected to be imminent. Also, localized areas have the potential to accumulate greater than 3 to 4 inches before the system moves out.
•Creeks, small streams, poor drainage and urban areas are most at risk of flooding during highest rainfall rates.
•South Creek will likely see the heaviest rainfall from approximately 9:15 a.m. lasting until approximately 2:00 p.m. and then another heavy band from approximately 3:15 p.m. lasting until approximately 5:00 p.m. We expect the heaviest to occur around midday.
•We are projected only in the 5-14% range of a chance of severe thunderstorms with this system, however we do expect winds in a NorthWest direction around 20 mph with the obvious potential for gusts at times.
•Along with localized flooding concerns, saturated soil could also lead to easily uprooted trees which have the potential to block roadways and damage equipment such as electrical and service lines.
Our office has been working diligently this afternoon with South Creek Fire Department, South Creek EMS, South Creek Township and Bradford County EMA to prepare for this upcoming event and we can assure you confidently that we are ready and able to answer any emergency or public service calls during this storm as well as mitigate traffic hazards and assist with flooded basements should there be any. If you do not absolutely need to travel tomorrow please consider staying indoors until the system has passed. DO NOT drive through standing water of any kind, remember, TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN. Please do not approach downed lines/wires of any type as they may have electrical current still live within them. If you are able, please report any downed trees, power lines or flooded roadways to the Bradford County 911 center via their non-emergency line at 570-265-9101. For EMERGENCIES please dial 911. As always, stay safe, look out for your neighbors and use your usual good judgment. Thank you all!
