League of Women Voters of Campbell County The LWV is a non-partisan citizens’ organization that has fought since 1920 to improve our government and engage all citizens.

The League is proud to be nonpartisan, neither supporting nor opposing candidates or political parties at any level of government, but always working on vital issues of concern to members and the public. The League has a long, rich history,that continues with each passing year.

Today in history: On August 26th, 1920 the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was certified. It reads:

“The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of s*x.

Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.”

The League of Women Voters formed about 6 months before by founders Emma Smith DeVoe and Carrie Chapman Catt.
