Girard Kansas Police Department

Girard Kansas Police Department This is the official page for the Girard Kansas Police Department Est. July 2023 This page is the official facebook account for the Girard Police Department.

The Girard Police Department has an interest in engaging, informing, and cultivating its stakeholder audience using traditional as well as new media. Social media has become one of the main channels of communication for many and is an excellent communication tool for public organizations. By leveraging social media as a primary communication tool, we are engaging our customers on their terms and s

upporting our business goals. Communication informs, educates, listens, and responds. Sharing information from other agencies, individuals, businesses or organizations can help the public better understand the issues, influences, concerns, challenges, and opportunities before us as a public entity. Sharing our own original content personalizes our messages and demonstrates our โ€œsocial persona.โ€ In social media, there are appropriate occasions for both original and shared content. Everything we do on social media ties back to our brand and the membership we serve. We use social media for:
ยท Organizational press releases, announcements, media information, event information, photos, job opportunities, and resources. We do not share or post:
ยท Political advocacy information (endorsements) or crude, rude, offensive, or derogatory statements. Public Records Law:
Agency social media sites are subject to applicable public records laws. Any content maintained in a social media format related to agency business, including communication posted by the Agency and communication received from citizens, is a public record. The Department maintaining the site is responsible for responding completely and accurately to any public records request for social media content.

After a brief stay in the Social Media Timeout Box, I've been released back into the wild. Just kidding. It's just been one of those weeks where every time you finish one task, five more show up. According to the Chief, those are called "side quests."

Anyway, I digress.

Please remember, it is always best to be the bigger person. Not because they deserve it, but because the best revenge is living well. The second best is not getting arrested. ๐Ÿซถ

Have a great weekend, bestie! Be the reason someone smiles, not the reason we have to write a report.

Sunshine. Vitamins. Hydration. Good decisions.

As the weather gets warmer and more people are out and about, we typically see an increase in vehicle-related crimes during the summer months.

We've recently responded to reports involving both vehicle break-ins and vehicle thefts, and we'd like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of a few ways to reduce their chances of becoming a victim

Many vehicle break-ins are crimes of opportunity. Thieves often look for unlocked vehicles or items left in plain sight.
Please remember to:
โ€ข Close and lock all windows and doors when you park.
โ€ข Take your keys and key fobs with you.
โ€ข Avoid leaving fi****ms, wallets, purses, cash, or electronics, or anything of value inside your vehicle whenever possible.
โ€ขPark in well-lit, populated areas whenever possible.
โ€ขConsider motion-activated lighting around your home.
โ€ขDon't leave garage door openers visible.
โ€ขReport suspicious activity when you see it. Often, the same person will check multiple vehicles in a neighborhood before committing a theft.

Certain 2011-2022 Kia and Hyundai vehicles equipped with traditional key ignitions have been targeted nationwide due to a known security vulnerability. Unlike many vehicle break-ins, these thefts are targeted specifically at those makes and models.
Hyundai and Kia offer free anti-theft upgrades and ignition cylinder protectors for many affected vehicles. If you own one of these vehicles, we encourage you to check your eligibility through the manufacturer's anti-theft program or contact a Hyundai or Kia dealership for more information on this recall.

At the end of the day, no security measure is perfect. A determined thief may still attempt to commit a crime. However, taking a few extra precautions can make your vehicle a much less attractive target.

If you see suspicious activity, contact the Girard Police Department. If a crime is in progress or there is an emergency, call 911 immediately.

We've already started getting calls asking when fireworks can be legally discharged within the City of Girard, so here's your annual cheat sheet:

June 20 through July 2 - 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

July 3 through July 5 - 8:00 AM to Midnight (12:00 AM)

July 6 through July 7- 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Don't worry, we'll circle back around and post additional reminders as we get closer to these dates.

Before you post "There must be something better for police to do....."

Please know we also think that every time we stop someone doing something incredibly dumb. Yet here we are.

Happy Friday. Make memories, not case numbers. We're rooting for you. ๐Ÿซถ
