As National Police Week 2026 rolls on our good friend Natalie stopped down with GPD bracelets she made for all of the Officers. There were doughnuts too…but they didn’t make it very far🤗 Thank you Natalie for always having our backs!

This afternoon Chief of Police John Freeman was presented with a letter of recognition from the FBI. Presented by Cleveland Special Agent in Charge Tori Gaskill and Youngstown Resident Agency Supervisory Special Agent Corey Taylor, the letter recognizes Chief Freeman as an emerging young Leader in Law Enforcement and reinforces the FBI’s commitment to supporting and working with local agencies, such as Girard PD, through strong relationships and Task Forces. This means a stronger and safer Girard for all. Well deserved Chief.

The Girard Police Department is proud to recognize Sergeant JJ Silverman for being honored by Trumbull County Children Services at their annual “Rising Up and Moving On” awards luncheon this week.

Sergeant Silverman received the First Responders in Excellence Award, recognizing his commitment to protecting children and supporting families in our community. This award further recognizes his life-saving actions in May of 2024 ( https://www.wkbn.com/news/local-news/girard-news/toddler-found-unresponsive-in-local-pond/ ), when he was the first on scene to assist an unresponsive toddler. Sergeant Silverman administered back blows, chest compressions, and finger sweeps, successfully restoring the child’s breathing prior to the arrival of fire and EMS personnel.

For these actions, Sergeant Silverman was previously awarded the Girard Police Department Advanced Life Saving Award during our departmental Merit Recognition and Award Ceremony held this past January on National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Throughout his career, Sergeant Silverman has demonstrated a consistent commitment to professional excellence and service, earning additional departmental recognition including the Advanced Certification Award, School Resource Officer Award, Rookie of the Year Award, Bachelor Degree Award, Instructor Award, and 5-Year Service Award.

Sergeant Silverman is also highly active within the Girard community and remains deeply engaged in community-oriented policing efforts. He consistently demonstrates a commitment to building strong relationships with the public, both through his own actions and by instilling these values in the officers he now leads as a newly promoted sergeant with the Girard Police Department.

We are proud of Sergeant Silverman’s continued dedication to service and the positive impact he has both within our department and throughout Trumbull County. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Trumbull County Children Services for its continued partnership with the GPD, its commitment to our community, and for recognizing Sergeant Silverman for his actions at their award luncheon this week.

Congratulations, Sergeant Silverman.
