Swiss Steak Dinner / Pie Auction Fundraiser for Kid's Boot Project

The annual Swiss Steak Dinner & Pie Auction fundraiser, put on by the Gladwin Christian Men's Club of the New Beginnings
Methodist Church will be held Saturday, October 24th, serving from 4:30 pm till 6:30 pm. Cost of the dinner will be $14 per adult, $8 kids 12 - 6
and 5 & under free. The pie auction will be held at 6:00 pm sharp and will feature Kable Thurlow as auctioneer again this year. Menu includes Swiss Steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, green beans, squash, coleslaw, roll and sheet cake for dessert.
This dinner is one of the major fundraisers of the year that helps the GCMC sponsor their "Boots for Kids" project. This project furnishes boots for needy kids at the Gladwin & Beaverton Elementary & Intermediate Schools free of charge, AND, in addition to the schools, last year the GCMC started furnishing over 100 pair of boots to the Christmas Kindness program that happens in December each year.
All this takes money, about a $7000 budget this year, and your patronage to the fundraiser greatly helps !! Over the past few years, the GCMC has given away well over 1400 pairs of boots through the program.
Please come and support the program, have a wonderful dinner and buy a pie at the same time !!

Our 8th grade STEM students spent the afternoon at Central Michigan University's Center for Excellence in STEM Education, and they jumped right in. Students sketched ideas on whiteboards, measured and cut, tested, rebuilt, and turned everyday materials into chairs, towers, and even a model sports complex. They also took on the magnetic marble wall, working together to get gears and ramps moving.

The sign on the wall said it best: "Tell me about your work." Our students were proud to do just that!

A big thank you to the CMU team for hosting us, and to our staff for making the trip possible. Days like this show our students what engineering looks like up close and that they're ready for it.

Fire starting success in Outdoor Ed this week!

Students used two different types of fire starters and were very successful with each. After reading about Brian's struggle to make fire in Hatchet, they got to try it for themselves, and they quickly saw how much patience and problem-solving it takes.

Outdoor Ed is a class 7th graders can take where they learn about outdoor survival and nature while reading Hatchet. It's hands-on learning at its best!

The Gladwin PTO has a Gladwin Thrift Day coming up on Saturday, September 12th at Redeemed Marketplace.

The idea behind the day is something we really love — recycle, reuse, and repurpose the Gladwin gear already in our community! Instead of perfectly good school apparel sitting in closets because it no longer fits or gets worn, we can pass it along to another Flying G family who can put it to good use.

We’re asking parents, students, staff, grandparents, and community members to look through their closets and donate any Gladwin apparel, sports gear, dance items, or other school-related items they no longer wear, need, or fit. We’re collecting all sizes so students and families from every school can find affordable Gladwin gear, wear our blue and white with pride for Homecoming, and continue wearing it throughout the school year.

All proceeds from the sale will go directly back into our schools to help support students, staff, activities, and needs throughout the district.

Early Dismissal – Thursday, September 3

To keep dismissal safe and traffic moving smoothly, Gladwin Community Schools will dismiss early next Thursday, September 3.

Jr. High & High School: 2:30 PM
Elementary & Intermediate: 3:00 PM

That afternoon and evening, our campus will also be hosting the Delmac bike touring group, who will be camping at the High School, along with the JV football game vs. Spring Lake at 4:00 PM. With all of this happening in the same area, we're adjusting dismissal times to avoid overlap and reduce congestion — we expect Elementary and Intermediate traffic to be clear of the area by 3:15 PM.

As artificial intelligence becomes part of everyday life in classrooms, workplaces, and homes, Gladwin Community Schools is taking a proactive, thoughtful approach rather than leaving staff and students to figure it out on their own.

That's why we're introducing an AI Coach for our district.

What this means:
For teachers - support in understanding best practices for AI, so it's used responsibly and never replaces good teaching, just supports it.
For students - clear guidance on expectations, rules, and digital citizenship around AI, so they understand how to use it appropriately (and when not to).
For our district - better tools to look at data and trends that help us make smarter decisions for our schools and kids.

We know AI is a topic with a lot of different opinions, and that's okay. Our goal isn't to chase a trend. Our goal is to make sure Gladwin students and staff are prepared, informed, and protected as this technology becomes part of the world they're growing up and working in. Doing nothing isn't a neutral choice; kids are already encountering AI, and we'd rather guide that than ignore it.
