We would like to thank the citizens of Gladwin city for their continued support with the passing of the public safety millage. Thank you.

10/01/2024

The City of Gladwin Police Department is seeking a renewal of the Public Safety millage in November 2024. This millage is strictly for the use of Public Safety. It can not and will not be used to fund other departments within the City of Gladwin.
This millage request is not associated with the Gladwin County-Public Safety millage which was approved in November 2023. The City of Gladwin Police Department does not receive any financial support from the passing of the Gladwin County Public Safety millage except for a small amount the Down Town Development Authority (DDA) captures. The DDA voted to pass this money onto the Police Department as the millage was intended for Public Safety.
The future plans for the money from the DDA will to be used for a city-wide camera system to help protect our citizens, businesses, and visitors.
The renewing of the City of Gladwin Public Safety millage will keep the city police department at its current staffing. This millage was approved in 2020. Should it not pass an officers position will be eliminated
Please support the City of Gladwin Police in this renewal request. Please contact the City Police Department at 989-426-7879 with any questions.

The City of Gladwin Police Department is investigating a fraud complaint where our victim was frauded out of a very large amount of cash. The victim handed the suspect the cash in the parking lot of Burger King on August 15, 2024 around 8:28pm on the west side of the parking lot.

We have viewed several surveillance videos and know the suspect parked in the east parking lot of Forward Shell station. The suspect is described as:

Asian
Early 20's
5'2 to 5'6
Dark in color bucket hat (Gillian hat) with a New York Yankee logo on the front in white lettering.
White shirt with black lettering on the back
Dark colored shorts
Wearing crocks for footwear without socks.

When we get more information on the vehicle we will update. We are requesting everyone please check surveillance at their homes or business.

The suspect walked across the pedestrian bridge over the river and did not appear on video again until he was on the west side of Forward Shell.

It is suspected he turned over the cash to someone else in the Lumm St. area. We have recovered some evidence and will be sending it to the Crime Lab.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Update on fraud investigation. After the suspect obtained the cash he drove west bound on M-61 to Chappel Dam Rd and drove thru the 4 way stop at Pratt Lake. He stopped on Pratt Lake Rd, his registration plate was concealed. The suspect was lost. A witness stopped to assist and verified this is our suspect. The witness pulled the concealment off the plate and it was a New York plate, unknown numbers.

The vehicle is either a gray or silver Toyota rave 4.

We are asking anyone with video to check. We are hoping to at least obtain a partial plate.

Any convenience stores, please check security video. This incident is believed to be part of a larger criminal enterprise.
