This past weekend 10 Members participated in New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) Fire behavior on the inside hosted here in Glasco.

"This intense live fire training program allows students to witness changes in fire behavior while common fireground actions are performed. Window ventilation, door control, VES, and more while firefighters monitor conditions from inside the fire building, providing the rare opportunity to witness changes in fire behavior on the inside."

After years of advocacy by FASNY, the NYS Assembly has passed landmark legislation increasing the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800, the first increase since the program was established nearly 20 years ago.

This legislation, S.6233-A (Sen. Martinez) / A.6790-A (MOA McMahon), also removes outdated restrictions that prevented volunteers from receiving both the state income tax credit and locally authorized property tax exemptions, delivering long-overdue support for volunteer emergency responders across New York state.

“This is a transformational moment for volunteer emergency services in New York State,” said FASNY First Vice President, Donald J. Farrell. “Quadrupling the volunteer firefighter and EMS tax credit from $200 to $800 sends a powerful message that New York recognizes the critical role volunteers play in protecting communities every day.”

As volunteer departments statewide continue to face recruitment and retention challenges, the legislation represents one of the most significant investments in volunteer emergency services in decades.

The Senate is expected to advance the measure in the coming days.

We have had a busy start to 2026 with 38 calls in the first 41 days. These calls have consisted of 8 structure fires. 1 in our district and 7 mutual aid. As we ride around the district we still see the vast majority of the fire hydrants buried by snow. Just a reminder that it is town ordinance that if you have a hydrant in your yard the home owner is responsible for clearing it. Please clear your hydrants because that could save you or your neighbor.
