As planned, Fort Williams has been the scene of much activity the past three months! Under the leadership of Joe Austin, volunteers have been at work restoring areas of the fort that have been subject to the elements for around 50 years. We especially thank the Glasgow Street Department for their assistance, David Pedigo, the SERVE 309 group made up of young people and their leaders from area churches. It's a time-consuming process since each board must be measured, custom cut, fit into its place, and then installed. SERVE 309 powered through to install 70 boards on Monday! Soon we'll have the last 45 boards installed and move on to other projects at the site.

Also, mark your calendars for September 14 and 15 when the 9th Kentucky Infantry Regiment will be encamped for learning opportunities, demonstrations, presentations, and activities throughout the weekend!

It’s been a busy spring at historic Fort Williams in Glasgow! We have continued another phase of replacing rotten wood boards and broken posts in this important local attraction.

The old adage about needing a village of people to do great things is certainly true at Fort Williams. Hearty thanks to David Pedigo for once again sharing his time, talent, and treasure to make this project possible. A big round of applause to the Liberty Association’s “Serve 309” program and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes - Mason Hagan, Tyler Hagan, Jax Stephens, Jay Houchens, and Gabby Russell - and adult leaders John Austin and Faith Cleary for a full day of work measuring, fitting, cutting, and replacing boards.

A tremendous thanks to the Glasgow Street Department for their work in preparing the gulley-washed and eroded driveway for pavement. Those familiar with the site know the treacherous issue of the drive that threatened to ruin tires and challenge visitors on foot. The Fort Williams Commission made the decision that making this local historic site accessible and safer for visitors was a number one priority.

Also, special thanks to James Spence for his work in making necessary repairs to the cannon that is displayed in the fort.

Finally, a big thanks to Glasgow Mayor Henry Royse for his enthusiasm for the fort and his diligence in helping the Fort Williams Commission (Joe Austin, Chairman; Terrell Alexander, Sam Terry, and Joe Trigg) continue its work to improve, repair, and promote one of Glasgow’s most popular tourist attractions.

There are more projects in the works but we couldn’t wait to share all that has occurred over the past several days!
