🚫🔥 Open Burning? Learn BEFORE You Burn! 🔥🚫
It’s important to remember, not everything can or should be burned. Protect your health, your neighbors, and our community by following the law and using common sense.
⚠️ Illegal burning includes:
• Household garbage (plastic, rubber, coated paper, etc.)
• Construction debris (shingles, drywall, insulation)
• Treated or painted wood
• Tires, chemicals, and other hazardous materials
These items release harmful toxins like dioxins, mercury, and lead into the air posing serious health risks, especially to children and the elderly.
✅ Legal burning (with restrictions) may include:
• Natural vegetation (brush, limbs) from land clearing
• Campfires and small warming fires
• Agricultural burning (where permitted)
‼️ Important reminders:
• Never burn within 50 feet of a structure
• Avoid burning on windy days
• Do not burn near roadways or streams
• Always attend your fire until it is completely out
♻️ Better options:
Reduce, reuse, recycle, or take items to your local landfill or recycling center.
Let’s do our part to keep Barren County safe, healthy, and clean. Protect your children’s health. Be a good neighbor. Follow the law.
