Federal Grand Jury Indicts Tompkinsville, Kentucky Man For Methamphetamine Trafficking

Bowling Green, KY – A federal grand jury in Bowling Green returned an indictment on March 12, 2025, charging a Tompkinsville, Kentucky man with distributing m**hamphetamine.

U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, Special Agent in Charge Jim Scott of the DEA Louisville Field Division, and Director Ron Lafferty of the Barren River Drug Task Force made the announcement.

According to the indictment, Brandon Gearlds, 41, was charged with distributing 5 grams or more of m**hamphetamine on October 23, 2023. Gearlds was also charged with distributing 50 grams or more of m**hamphetamine on October 26, 2023, and April 24, 2024.

The defendant made his initial court appearance on March 18, 2025, before a U.S. Magistrate Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky. The Court ordered the defendant detained pending trial. If convicted, Gearlds faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

There is no parole in the federal system.

This case is being investigated by the DEA - Paducah Post of Duty and the Barren River Drug Task Force.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark J. Yurchisin II, of the U.S. Attorney’s Bowling Green Branch Office, is prosecuting the case.

An indictment is merely an allegation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The following is a press release from the Barren River Drug Task Force in reference to a drug investigation.

” On Tuesday, 01/03/2024, at approximately 01:11 am the Barren River Drug Task Force, Metcalfe Co. Sheriff’s Office, Edmonton Police Dept. and KSP DESI West executed a search warrant at 507 S. Main St in Edmonton in reference to a drug investigation. Law enforcement found approximately 35 grams of crystal m**h, ma*****na, numerous prescription pills, scales, drug paraphernalia and cash in the residents.

52-year-old Eric Bullington of Edmonton was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance > or = 2 grams of m**hamphetamine, possession of ma*****na, possession of controlled substance 2nd degree-unspecified and possession of drug paraphernalia. 30-year-old Shantelle Wireman was also at the residence and was arrested on a Probation Violation warrant by the Metcalfe Sheriff’s Office. Mr. Bullington was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.”

On November the 21st, 2023, the Barren River Drug Task Force presented Danny Gibson a 20-year recognition plaque for his service as a board member with the Drug Task Force. The task force was created in 2003 and this year represents the 20th anniversary of the Drug Task Force. The DTF is run by a board of directors that consists of Judge Executives, Mayors, Sheriff’s, Chiefs, Commonwealth Attorney, County Attorney, Federal and state agencies, and a citizen at large. Over 20 years, there have been numerous changes with the board of directors due to elections or retirements, but one thing has stayed consistent, Danny Gibson has always remained the Citizen at Large board member. Board members do not get paid and is a voluntary position. Danny Gibson has always supported the DTF and has generously donated his time and efforts to not only the DTF buy many organizations that benefit the citizens of our community. Barren River DTF Dir. Ron Lafferty presented Mr. Gibson his 20 Years of Service plaque at the Barren County Fiscal Court meeting. The Drug Task Force want to, again, thank Danny for all his contributions and support to the DTF and the communities that we serve.

The following is a press release by the Barren River Drug Task Force.

On Saturday, Sept. 30th, 2023, at approximately 1:48 am the Barren River Drug Task Force responded to a motel on Gardner Lane in Cave City in reference to a drug investigation. When law enforcement attempted to make contact at the motel room, 34-year-old Barry F. Marcum of Gradyville, KY opened the door. Illegal drugs could be seen in plain view. Mr. Marcum allowed officers into the room and granted consent to search.

The DTF discovered approximately 400 grams of crystal m**hamphetamine, 37 fentanyl pills disguised as oxycodone, 9 suboxone strips, 14 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, 3 strips of L*D, ma*****na, a large sum of cash and a handgun. A check on Mr. Marcum revealed that he also had an active warrant for other drug and traffic offences.

Mr. Marcum was arrested for the active warrant and was additionally charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offence > or =2 grams of m**h enhanced (due to the firearm), trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offence (L*D) – enhanced, Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st offence (Carfentanil or Fentanyl derivatives) – enhanced, Trafficking in a controlled substance 2nd degree, 1st offence (> or = 10 dose units hallucinogen) – enhanced, Trafficking in a controlled substance 3rd degree 1st offence (

The following is a press release from the Barren River Drug Task Force in reference to a drug arrest on 08/07/2023.

On Monday Aug. 7th, 2023, the Barren River Drug Task Force, Metcalfe Sheriff’s Office and KSP conducted a search warrant at a residence on Judd Rd. in Metcalfe County. The investigation started on Aug. 4th when the Barren County Jailer contacted the DTF in reference to a subject placing illegal drugs on the Jail property for an inmate to pick up and bring into the jail. The DTF conducted an investigation and reviewed video from the Barren County Jail and communications between an inmate and the suspect. The investigation led to the search warrant on Judd Rd.

Detectives recovered approximately 87.8 grams of crystal m**h along with ma*****na, loaded syringes, scales, packaging equipment and numerous fi****ms. An explosive device (pipe bomb) was also discovered in the residence. The explosive device was turned over to the ATF and KSP explosive technicians at the scene for destruction.

34-year-old Cory Scott Roach of Edmonton was arrested and charged with trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offence > or = 2 grams, possession of ma*****na, drug paraphernalia – buy/possess and tampering with evidence. Mr. Roach admitted to trafficking in illegal drugs and admitted to flushing m**h when law enforcement arrived. Mr. Roach was lodged in the Barren County Detention Center. Additional arrests and charges are pending.

The following/attached is a press release by the Barren River Drug Task Force in reference to a drug arrest on 07/27/2023

On Thursday, 07/27/2023 at approximately 11:00 pm, detectives with the Barren River Drug Task Force and the Barren County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a residence on Hiseville Bear Wallow Rd. in Cave City in reference to illegal drug sales by 75-year-old Jimmy Lee Edwards. A total of over 6 ounces of crystal m**h was obtained from Mr. Edwards along with 58 grams of suspected ma*****na. Detectives recovered four fi****ms, cash, scales, baggies, drug paraphernalia and cell phones. While executing the warrant, a reported 17-year-old missing juvenile was found at the residence who admitted that he had used m**h at the residence. An adult female was also at the residence who confirmed that Mr. Edwards had provided the juvenile with the m**hamphetamine and had instructed the juvenile to participate in the distribution of the m**h.

Mr. Edwards was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offence > or = 2 grams with one count being enhanced due to the fi****ms, trafficking in ma*****na 1st offence – enhanced and unlawful transaction with minor 1st – illegal controlled substance, Under 18 years of age. Mr. Edwards was lodged in the Barren County Correctional Center.

The following is a press release y the Barren River Drug Task Force in reference to a drug arrest which occurred in March 30, 2023.

On March 30th at approximately 3:15 pm, the Barren River Drug Task Force & the Barren County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a storage unit located at 908 Happy Valley Rd. after K-9 Merc alerted to the detection of illegal narcotics. Detectives and deputies discovered approximately 315 suspected fentanyl pills disguised as oxycodone M30’s. Detectives and deputies also discovered approximately 21 ounces of synthetic spice, 30 suboxone strips and a large amount of cash.
Later in the evening, a DTF detective conducted a traffic stop on 68 year old Danny Graham of Glasgow. Approximately an ounce of synthetic spice was found in plain view in his vehicle. The DTF arrested Mr. Graham for the contents of the storage unit and his vehicle and charged him with Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense- fentanyl/carfentinal derivatives, trafficking in a controlled substance 3rd degree -drug unspecified, trafficking in synthetic drugs 1st, and possession of drug paraphernalia buy/possess. Mr. Graham was lodged in the Barren Co Jail.

“On 04/10/2023 at approximately 14:23 the Barren Co. Sheriff’s Dept. conducted a traffic stop on 30-year-old Troy A. Vibbert of Glasgow in reference to an active Barren River Drug Task Force indictment warrant. Mr. Vibbert was served with the indictment warrant and was the 4th person indicted for allegedly supplying illegal drugs to be brought into the Barren County Jail. On 12/28/22 Barren Co. Jailer, Aaron Shirley requested the DTF to investigate how illegal drugs were getting into the jail. The DTF previously indicted and arrested former deputy jailer Edith Piercy and inmates Shasta Vaughn of London, KY and Amber D. Huff of Glasgow. All were charged with Engaging in organized crime and promoting contraband.

Deputy Maxey noticed the odor of suspected ma*****na coming from inside of the vehicle. 31-year-old Ms. Amber S. Thompson, of Glasgow, produced a ma*****na cigarette. A DTF detective was called to the scene. A search of the vehicle revealed a large bag of suspected ma*****na under the passenger seat along with digital scales, numerous unopened packages hypodermic needles. A bag of suspected crystal m**h was additionally found on Ms. Thompson.

Mr. Vibbert was lodged in the Barren County Jail and Ms. Thompson was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense-Methamphetamine, Possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of ma*****na. She was lodged in the Barren County jail as well.”

The following is a press release from the Barren River Drug Task Force in reference to a drug and warrant arrest in Barren County.

“On 03/23/2023 the Barren River Drug Task Force was contacted by the Bowling Green Police Department in reference to a wanted subject that maybe in the Glasgow area. At approximately 12:14 a Barren River Drug Task Force detective noticed Deandre Lamont Christian in a white impala on 31E South. The DTF detective knew that Mr. Christian had active warrants out of Bowling Green for Trafficking in Fentanyl. The DTF detective contacted the Barren County Sheriff’s Department and their tactical team to attempt to conduct a felony stop.

The white Impala got onto the Cumberland Parkway west bound towards Bowling Green. The Barren County Sheriff’s Department Tactical Team was able to stop the vehicle near mile marker 7 and place Mr. Christian under arrest for the active warrant without incident. Prior to exiting the vehicle, he destroyed his cell phone. Mr. Christian additionally threatened one of the passengers with physical harm in front of Deputies.

Mr. Christian was charged with the active warrant for two counts of Trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offence (carefenanil or fentanyl derivatives, receiving stolen property $10,000 or more, fleeing evading police 1st degree (motor vehicle) and obscuring the identity of a machine $10,000 or more.

Mr. Christian was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense (Co***ne), possession of a controlled substance 1st degree, 1st offense (opiates), tampering with physical evidence, Terroristic threatening 3rd degree and drug paraphernalia-buy/possess. Mr. Christian was lodged in the Barren County Correction Center. The Glasgow Police Dept. assisted.”

"On February 13th at approximately 7:20 pm, The Barren River Drug Task Force along with the Barren County Sheriff’s Dept. and Social Services went to a residence on Oak Hill School Rd. in Barren County in reference to a drug complaint.
44-year-old James Edwards Scott and a female subject was located at the residence. Both gave consent to search. Mr. Scott was found to possess a large bag of suspected crystal m**hamphetamine in his pocket. Another smaller bag of m**h was found near where he was sitting along with drug paraphernalia. Mr. Scott stated that all the items were his. Approximately 53 grams of crystal m**h were found along with $436 in cash, scales, m**h pipes and baggies. Mr. Scott was arrested and charged with trafficking in m**hamphetamine 1st offence > or = 2 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was lodged in the Barren County Corrections Center."
