🔥 ONE SPARK CAN START A WILDFIRE

Open fires are not permitted in public parks and preserves. Even a small flame can quickly become dangerous - especially during dry conditions.

Help us protect our parks and preserves:

✔ Follow posted regulations
✔ Never start unauthorized fires

The Fire Department continues to monitor the pending storm. Later this evening, available members will be asked to report to their respective stations for overnight coverage. While Glastonbury Fire does not staff any of its fire stations, we implement station coverage to ensure the safety of our members and expedite response to any incident.

With the potential for power outages, please DO NOT:
• Run any gas-powered equipment in enclosed structures.
• Use outdoor appliances (a camping grill) to attempt to heat your residence.
• Attempt to refuel a generator when running.

If you heat your home with natural gas or propane, ensure that the exhaust vent is NOT blocked with snow. This can create carbon monoxide buildup inside your home.

The snow is expected to be heavy and wet. It is recommended to shovel your driveway and walks periodically. Don’t forget your fire hydrant, too.

Please make provisions early to take care of your family and home. Once it starts to snow, please stay off the roads to allow our Public Works and Park and Recreation partners the ability to clear the roadways.

Attached is the latest information about the pending storm provided by the State of Connecticut’s Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

Stay safe.

GFD wants to remind all residents that blocked vents can cause combustion gases (including carbon monoxide) to back up inside a home. Ensure you remove snow from any covered vents & exhaust fans. Also, ensure your carbon monoxide detector is plugged in or has a working battery.

A friendly reminder… A frozen pond may look safe but might not be - especially during warmer days. As temperatures fluctuate, ice conditions become unpredictable and dangerous.

🐾 If Someone or a Pet falls through the Ice
𝗗𝗢 𝗡𝗢𝗧 attempt a rescue. Call 911 immediately. First responders are trained and equipped with cold-water rescue suits to handle these emergencies safely.

👉 Parents, Please Talk to Your Kids - discuss the dangers of walking, skating, or playing on ice.

Let’s work together to ensure a safe winter season for everyone. Staying off unsafe ice protects you and keeps first responders safe.
