Traffic Advisory Announcement

Just wanted to let everyone know that the Church Street portion that we had talked about just shutting down on Saturday will now begin tonight, September 3rd. Barricades will be put in place blocking off from the stop sign at College Street and going down to just past the caboose. The picture in the post shows where the blocked off portion is. The area will be blocked off from 6pm-9pm. This is for the safety of everyone attending the events. The easiest way to access the Methodist Church parking area is to enter in off of Missionary Lane and exiting to Church Street then to Gibbs Street. We would like to thank everyone cooperation so far and also thank everyone for supporting all the events this week.

PUBLIC TRAFFIC NOTICE
Tater Town Special Vendor Show

Saturday, September 5, 2026 | 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

The City is advising residents and visitors of a temporary traffic closure on a portion of Church Street, in front of the Gazelle Grounds, this Saturday, September 5, 2026 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM in conjunction with the Tater Town Special Vendor Show.

TRAFFIC CLOSURE

Church Street within the designated event area will be closed to all wheeled traffic during the specified hours. Barricades will be placed at designated locations to restrict vehicle and other wheeled traffic from entering the event area.

The temporary closure is necessary to help ensure the safety of pedestrians, vendors, event attendees, and motorists due to the anticipated increase in pedestrian traffic around the vendor booths and food trucks.

Motorists are asked to observe all barricades and traffic-control measures and to use designated parking areas and alternate routes.

PARKING

Event parking will be available at:

State Championship Drive — Gleason School
Gleason Methodist Church

A map has been provided showing an alternate route from the downtown area to the Gleason Methodist Church parking lot via Missionary Lane.

The Methodist Church parking area may also be accessed by leaving the downtown area via South Cedar Street, turning right onto Gibbs Street, and then turning right onto Church Street. This route will lead to the Methodist Church parking lot.

WEATHER & HEAT SAFETY

Event attendees are encouraged to prepare for extremely hot conditions. The heat index could potentially reach 107°F during the event.

Please take appropriate precautions, including:

Drinking plenty of water and staying hydrated.
Taking frequent breaks from the heat.
Wearing lightweight, appropriate clothing.
Checking on children, elderly individuals, and others who may be particularly vulnerable to extreme heat.
Never leaving children or pets unattended in vehicles.

The City appreciates the public's cooperation, patience, and attention to posted traffic-control measures during the event.

Please plan ahead, allow additional time for travel, and use caution around pedestrian areas.

For anyone new to the area or ones that haven't downloaded the app yet, here is a QR code that lets you download the app. This app is available on Google Play and App Store. This app is also free and it is where we post any road closures and upcoming events information. It also has a lot of miscellaneous information like Services and different Resources for the area. This app is specific to City of Gleason residents, but can be downloaded by anyone that may travel to Gleason or that may live around Gleason. If you have trouble downloading the app, get with one of the officers and we can help you out.

Back to School Time!!!

School starts back next week, August 10.

The pictures show what each drop off and pick up will look like.

We wanted to let everyone know about the morning and afternoon school traffic guidelines. Really nothing has changed from last school year. All roads around the school are 15 MPH during school hours (715am-815am & 215pm-315pm) on school days and the road is blocked off at the Gleason Church of Christ. Always stop for people crossing at the crosswalk on College Street. Also please remember to pay extra attention during school traffic. It is your responsibility to watch your surroundings for children and other adults. Also school zones are a hands-free device area. Please refrain from using your cell phone in school zones unless connected to a hands-free connection.

*Remember*
During morning drop off, State Championship Drive is ONE-WAY. Traffic will enter State Championship Drive from Main Street (road that runs by the bank). You will then enter one of the driving lanes. The lane closer to the school is for younger students, students that may take longer to go into the school or people that need to park to go into the school. The left lane is normally a faster lane (drop off and go). Then proceed down the travelling lanes to exit onto College Street. Make sure to signal which way you are exiting onto College Street and pay attention to the officer at the intersection.
During afternoon pick up, traffic returns back to normal lane travel. We ask that you keep traffic flowing smoothly and not sit and wait for your student to come out.

School Bus Safety:
It is against the law to pass a school bus when the stop arm is out. The only exception to this law is on a divided highway when there is a physical barrier, grass median or other physical barrier, between the bus and your vehicle.
