Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo did something that stunned the world during the 2010 Zheng-Kai Marathon when she witnessed a disabled competitor struggling to drink water who was a double amputee.
Instead of seeing her moment to run ahead of this struggling athelete, she ran along side of him from the 6.2 mile mark to the 23 mile mark (10km mark to the 38km mark), helping him drink water at all of the watering stations.
The aide that she so compassionately provided her fellow competitor slowed her run time down and caused her to lose her first place position and place 2nd in the race — costing her the win and the $10,000 cash prize.
Jacqueline Nyetipei Kiplimo showed the world that day that to her, being compassionate and helping one another was more important than winning a race that she had been preparing for her entire life.
Now this is what a true leader looks like, one that never leaves someone disadvantaged behind. ❤️

In response to the COVID-19 crisis, as of this afternoon, March 31, 2020, all City of Gleason properties will be closed to the public, until further notice, EXCLUDING the walking trail at Snider Park. The closure includes ALL ball fields, open grassy areas, disc golf course, pavilion, and playground equipment.
Governor Lee has issued a “Safer at Home” order to limit exposure to the COVID-19 virus. Though you may be healthy, you could be a carrier for the virus, so we need to be mindful of others. We encourage you if you must be out, to keep a safe distance of 6ft from one another, wash your hands often and do not touch your face. Encourage those around you who may be immuno-compromised to limit social interactions with family and friends.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our businesses in town for going the extra mile and helping take care of our citizens during this time of crisis. This is what Small Town Living is all about!
Lastly and most importantly, THANK YOU to all the citizens of Gleason who are mindful of one another, doing their best to keep us all safe, checking on your neighbor and helping those who are in need!

❗️Gleason Citizens❗️

As of Monday, March 23, 2020, the City of Gleason will close all access to city offices to the public. This is due to Executive Order 17 signed by Governor Bill Lee.

However, city employees will continue working normal hours so you can reach us at City Hall at 648-5547 or by email to [email protected] for any questions regarding city business.
Water, sewage, and garbage bills will be mailed out this week and we are urging customers to use our night deposit at the main entrance of City Hall, pay by mail, pay over phone, or pay via website. We are here to help you and assist you in any way we can!

We are committed to keeping our citizens and employees safe and healthy so please help us to “flatten the curve” and give us a call for any assistance!
