Nestled in history, the OLDEST standing juke joint in the country, located in Glen Allen, MS, was built back in the early 1940s and has quite a story to tell. It was a favorite spot owned by Lonnie Chatman, a fiddler with the legendary Mississippi Sheiks, who recorded some of the most unforgettable country blues melodies before the war. What’s fascinating is that the Sheiks were steeped in old-time music, often recording tracks that were repackaged for white audiences as hillbilly tunes, making them pretty unique for African American artists of that era. This juke joint wasn’t just a place to enjoy music; it’s a living piece of Americana, preserving the rich and vibrant history of blues music and its cultural roots. Mt. Zion Memorial Fund
