HAZARDOUS WEATHER EXPECTED THIS EVENING

Anne Arundel County residents should remain weather aware this afternoon and evening as scattered thunderstorms move through the region. Some storms may become severe.

Primary hazards include:
- Damaging wind gusts
- Hail
- Heavy rainfall
- Localized flash flooding
- Frequent lightning

Repeated heavy rainfall may cause flooding in urban, low-lying, and poor-drainage areas. Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway — Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

If a warning is issued for your area, take action immediately. Move indoors and stay away from windows during severe thunderstorms.

✨With school buses back on the roads and sidewalks packed with excited students, let’s all do our part to keep our community’s kids safe. Here are 5 quick reminders for drivers and parents to keep top of mind this week:

🛑 Stop for the Bus: Never pass a school bus with its red lights flashing or stop arm extended. It’s the law—and it saves lives.
🚶‍♂️ Heads Up, Phones Down: Drivers, eliminate distractions in school zones. Students, keep your eyes on the road (not your phone) when crossing the street.
🚸 Respect the Zone: Slow down and strictly obey posted school zone speed limits and crossing guards.
👟 Cross Safely: Teach kids to look left-right-left and make eye contact with drivers before stepping into a crosswalk.
🎒 The Backpack Rule: Protect growing backs! Make sure kids use both straps to distribute weight evenly.

We want to remind everyone to avoid flooded roadways and stay away from areas at risk of coastal flooding. Flooding can be hard to see, especially at night. Obey road closure signs and never attempt to drive through flooded areas.
