Congratulations to the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) on receiving the 2026 Response Project of the Year Award from the Maryland Emergency Management Association for their coordinated food distribution response during the federal government shutdown.

In November 2025, I announced $500,000 in emergency funding for the Anne Arundel County Food Bank to support our residents affected by the federal government shutdown and the delay of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

This award reflects what emergency management looks like when county government, nonprofit partners, and community organizations move together with urgency and purpose. When residents needed help, Anne Arundel County stepped up, and our partners made sure food reached the people who needed it most.

Thank you to OEM for leading our county’s food distribution response, and congratulations again on this award.
