On the evening of April 7th, smoke was observed entering the city limits from the south. The City burn pit was ablaze and, due to high winds, required immediate attention. Glen Elder Fire Department, with water assistance from Mitchell County Rural Fire District #3, successfully extinguished the flames, preventing further incident. This serves as a reminder that the burn pit is designated for tree disposal only and not for other trash or construction debris. Additionally, City employees are the only authorized personnel to ignite the pit.

March’s monthly meeting was a training night. The group was split into two teams. Recognizing that not everyone may arrive on scene simultaneously, we must all be prepared. Teams were tasked with arriving at the nearest hydrant, making the connection, and initiating water flow. Teams worked through various scenarios to adapt their response strategies.

The Fire Chief and a couple firefighters braved the cold and fired up Glen Elders first ever fire truck, 1929 American LaFrance, lit up with a few extra lights to make the trek. Santa was safely delivered to a warm welcoming committee. Thanks to all who attended!
