The Glen Ellyn Police Department is announcing the results of its Memorial Day 2026 “Click It or Ticket” enforcement campaign. This campaign is aimed at increasing seat belt use and keeping roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

During the campaign, The Glen Ellyn Police Department took the following actions:
• 3 seat belt citations issued.
• 8 DUI arrests.
• 6 felony arrests.
• 1 stolen vehicle recovered.
• 1 fugitive apprehended.
• 6 suspended/revoked license actions.
• 7 uninsured motorist citations.
• 25 speeding citations.

The campaign’s success reflects law enforcement's commitment to roadway safety and reinforces the message that buckling up saves lives.

📊 Did you know? Illinois seat belt use went from 16% in 1985 to 93% in 2025. Keep improving safety — buckle up every trip!

The “Click It or Ticket” initiative is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit www.ItsNotaGameIllinois.com.

The Glen Ellyn Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Illinois for the 2026 “Click It or Ticket” campaign running May 15-26 during the Memorial Day travel period.

Officers will conduct high-visibility enforcement day and night, focusing on seat belt violations. Motorists who fail to buckle up can expect to be stopped and ticketed.

Illinois law requires all drivers and passengers to wear seat belts. While usage has increased to 93% in 2025, unrestrained fatalities remain a concern — especially at night.

The Glen Ellyn Police Department and Glenbard West High School would like to make the community aware of a game played by high school aged students called, "Senior Assassin". This game is played nationwide each year, and several incidents have occurred throughout the nation and nearby communities. The Glen Ellyn Police Department has already responded to 911 calls from concerned citizens regarding student behavior related to this game.

Participants in this game attempt to locate other players and sq**rt them with a water gun. The toy gun play involves people running, hiding, and chasing other participants. This game is not permitted on Glenbard West High School grounds and is not a sponsored activity. Some incidents have occurred outside of Glen Ellyn, where participants have utilized realistic looking water guns. The use of realistic looking toy guns can lead to unintended consequences. While the game is not illegal, the Glen Ellyn Police Department and Glenbard West High School do not condone student participation. Actions of participants could create a preventable incident resulting in potential criminal and/or ordinance violation charges.

Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about this game and the potential risks involved. The Glen Ellyn Police Department encourages the public to report any suspicious activity by dialing 911.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Distracted driving is any activity that takes the driver’s attention away from the task of safe driving. Using a cell phone while driving is a risky driving behavior that poses a danger not only to vehicle occupants but pedestrians and bicyclists. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 16,482 people died and about 1.6 million people were injured in distraction-affected crashes from 2020 to 2024.

Notifications are temporary. Fines and injuries aren’t. Keep your eyes on the road, not your phone. If you are expecting a text message or need to send one that can’t wait, pull over and park your car in a safe location before using your device.
Remember: Eyes Forward. Don’t Drive Distracted.
