🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT – RIDGEWOOD AVENUE CLOSURE 8/24 & 8/25🚧

Please be advised that Ridgewood Avenue will be closed to through traffic on Monday, August 24, and Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 5:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Snowden Place will also be closed. Residents on Snowden and between 190 and 209 Ridgewood Avenue will be permitted access on the closed roadways. All other traffic will be diverted

Traffic will be diverted as indicated on the attached map (Red = Road Closure). To help reduce congestion and delays, motorists are strongly encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes whenever possible.

Train Station: The Glen Ridge Train Station, Post Office & Bank area will remain accessible to the public, and Jitney Service will be available.

Parking: Permitted Parking normally located on Ridgewood Avenue will be redirected to Woodland Avenue during the closure.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Glen Ridge Officers will be on scene to assist with traffic. Please plan accordingly and allow additional travel time.

The Glen Ridge Police Department is pleased to announce its participation in New Jersey’s Alternative Responses to Reduce Instances of Violence and Escalation (ARRIVE) Together Program, which officially launched in Glen Ridge on August 17, 2026.

ARRIVE Together is a statewide initiative developed through the NJ Office of the Attorney General to improve responses to individuals experiencing mental health crises by bringing together law enforcement officers and behavioral health professionals. Since its implementation, the program has expanded to all 21 counties and has resulted in more than 20,687 ARRIVE interactions statewide.

The program is designed to provide appropriate care and resources to individuals in crisis, reduce the potential for escalation, and improve outcomes for both community members and responding officers.

Through a partnership with the Montclair Police Department, Glen Ridge will share access to a trained mental health professional from RWJBarnabas Health. The screener works alongside law enforcement officers when responding to appropriate adult mental health-related calls, providing an additional behavioral health resource during situations where specialized assistance may be beneficial.

The Glen Ridge Police Department is proud to participate in this important statewide initiative and looks forward to working with the Montclair Police Department, RWJBarnabas Health, and the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General to enhance the services and resources available to members of our community.

THANK YOU to everyone who came out to our Glen Ridge Community Night Out!

Despite the rain, our community showed up in an incredible way and helped make the evening a tremendous success. Your support, smiles, and enthusiasm truly demonstrated what makes Glen Ridge such a special place.

Thank you to all of our residents, families, community partners, vendors, first responders, and volunteers who helped make this event possible. We loved spending the evening with you, building relationships, and celebrating the strong partnership between our community and those who serve it.

The Glen Ridge Police Department has arrested and charged a suspect in connection with a residential burglary that occurred on Lorraine Street on August 2nd, 2026.

On August 2nd, 2026, Officers responded to Lorraine Street for a suspicious condition called in by a neighbor. A concerned neighbor observed an opened window and that items around the residence were out of place. It was later determined that several credit cards and a purse were stolen and used in Newark. Following an investigation conducted by the Glen Ridge Detective Bureau, detectives identified Shaquan Parker, 38, of East Orange, as the suspect for the Burglary. Mr. Parker was taken into custody by a neighboring agency and transferred to Glen Ridge Police Dept.

As a result of the investigation, Parker has been charged with Burglary and Theft related to the August 2nd incident and remanded to the Essex County Correctional Facility.

The investigation remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the incident is encouraged to contact the Glen Ridge Police Department Detective Bureau.

Criminal charges are merely accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Crossing Guards Needed!

Want to support the Glen Ridge Community and help kids? Looking to supplement your income while giving back? We are currently seeking reserve crossing guards, for this 2026-2027 school year and we think YOU would be a great fit!

Applications for these positions can be picked up at the Glen Ridge Police Department. The current rate for the position is $20.00 per hour. Most days will require 2 – 3 posts, each lasting approximately 1.5 hours each.

Position: Crossing Guard
Employer: Glen Ridge Police Department
Rate: $20.00

Candidates for this position are asked to meet certain physical and medical requirements, and complete training once appointed. If you are dependable, have transportation, and want to work a few hours a day, this may be the job for you! We will provide you with paid training and equipment. This is a perfect job for a retired person, or anyone wishing to earn some extra income without working a full day. Additional work at town events may be available.

Minimum Requirements: Positions require 2 – 3 posts per day. Hours are subject to adjustment on early dismissal days. Applicants must be a citizen and resident of this state, sound in body and of good health. Applicants must not have a conviction for any criminal offense. There are no formal education or experience requirements for this job, but all candidates must be able to understand English and speak English well enough to be understood.
Once appointed, candidates must complete two hours of classroom instruction and twenty hours of field training under the supervision of an experienced crossing guard.
