Proposed Zoning Ordinance Amendment for Data Centers

The Shrewsbury Township Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Township Municipal Complex, 12341 Susquehanna Trail South, Glen Rock, Pennsylvania, to consider a proposed amendment to the Township Zoning Ordinance regarding data centers.

Why is this amendment being proposed?

The proposed amendment is a proactive measure to establish regulations for data centers. It is not intended to encourage the development of data centers within Shrewsbury Township.

Pennsylvania law requires municipalities to provide for all legitimate land uses in their zoning ordinances. If a use is not addressed, a data center could potentially be approved through the special exception process with limited regulatory standards.

Under the proposed amendment, a data center would instead require conditional use approval by the Board of Supervisors and would be required to comply with comprehensive supplemental regulations designed to protect the Township and its residents.

There are NO data centers currently proposed for Shrewsbury Township.

Rolling Stops Planned for this Week I-83

PennDOT announced that rolling stops are planned for this week on Interstate 83 between Exit 4 (Route 851) and the northbound I-83 Welcome Center to allow blasting to be performed for a commercial development (warehouse).

Weather permitting, there will be a blast between 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM on Tuesday, July 14, and Wednesday, July 15. As a safety precaution, there will be rolling stops of up to 10 minutes in both directions of I-83 between Exit 4 and the Welcome Center. Only one rolling stop will be implemented per day.

Travelers should be alert, drive with caution, and watch for slow-moving vehicles.

Note that there will be blasting over the next few weeks on the same site, but that it will not impact traffic flow on I-83. The rolling stops occur only when blasting is within 400 feet of the interstate.

Due to the Memorial Day Holiday all regular Penn Waste trash and recycling customers will be delayed one (1) day. Thursday customers will be collected Friday and Friday customers will be collected Saturday.

SNOW EMERGENCY IN EFFECT – Shrewsbury Township will be under a Snow Emergency from 8 PM Saturday (01/24/26) to 12 PM Tuesday (1/27/26). Please remove all vehicles, trailers, etc. from public streets to allow proper snow removal.
