This morning, 22 Car 1 and 22 Engine 2 responded to the Borough of Hawthorne on a working fire assignment. Upon arrival, crews assisted with multiple fireground operations and remained on scene for approximately five hours before returning to the Borough. 🚨 GLEN ROCK RESIDENTS — WE NEED YOU! 🚨
Every year, the Glen Rock Fire Department and Fair Lawn Fire Department come together to offer our Citizens Fire Academy — a unique opportunity for members of our community to go behind the scenes and experience what your local firefighters do. This class is NOT boring lectures.
Participants will get an up-close look at the fire service, learn about firefighting operations and emergency response, meet the firefighters who serve their communities, and take part in hands-on experiences you won't get anywhere else.
But there's another important reason we offer this academy: to show members of our community that they can be a part of this, too.

The Glen Rock Fire Department is made up of volunteers — your neighbors, friends, coworkers, and community members who have stepped up to serve. If you've ever wondered whether volunteering as a firefighter might be for you, the Citizens Fire Academy is the perfect opportunity to learn more about what it takes and what being part of the fire department is really like.

The 2026 Citizens Fire Academy begins in October!
Right now, we have ZERO Glen Rock residents signed up, and we would love to change that. We know Glen Rock has an incredible community, and we want our residents to take advantage of this opportunity!
You don't have to join the fire department to participate in the Citizens Fire Academy — but if the experience sparks an interest in volunteering, we'll be there to show you how you can take the next step.

While you were asleep, the Glen Rock Fire Department responded to a reported house fire. Upon arrival, firefighters quickly confirmed that it was a working fire.

Glen Rock firefighters, along with mutual aid companies from surrounding communities, worked together to bring the fire under control.

The Fair Lawn Fire Department and Glen Rock Fire Department are pleased to announce that we are accepting applications for our Eight Annual Citizens Fire Academy. The six-week evening class will start on Tuesday October 6th and will give participants a chance to see what being a firefighter is all about. The class is open to all Fair Lawn and Glen Rock residents ages 18 and older. Participants are expected to attend all the sessions. The evening classes start at 7:30 PM and typically end by 9:30 PM

If you have ever wondered what it is like to be a firefighter or perhaps you are thinking of joining the fire department, well then, this class if for you!

This class is NOT boring lectures. It is a hands-on interactive class that gives the participants an opportunity to experience what it is like to be a volunteer firefighter. Students will be issued fire gear and perform many of the tasks that firefighters experience including handling hose lines, entering a smoke-filled environment, and using extrication equipment all in safe and controlled environment. Participants must be able to exert themselves with a moderate level of physical activity.

There are a limited number of students that can participate and not everyone will be accepted. There is no charge for this class.

This evening’s storm brought another challenging evening for our firefighters. Our department responded to 15 calls for service related to flooding throughout the evening.

One of the most serious incidents involved a vehicle trapped in floodwater with two occupants inside. Working alongside the Glen Rock Police Department - NJ, our members entered the water and pulled the two occupants to safety as the vehicle continued to fill with water.
