Somervell County Fire Department

Somervell County Fire Department Honored and proud to serve and protect Somervell County and to aide our fellow brothers and sisters that surround us.
Lord, grant me courage to face and conquer my fears to share and endure the ordeal of those who need me... Grant me strength of heart and body to bear whatever burden might be placed upon me, and to deliver to safety all those placed within my care... Give me concern for others the compassion to comfort, and the love to serve unselfishly whenever I am called... And please, Lord, through it all, be by my side.

Did you know, that as first responders, we have to play hide and go seek with address numbers on nearly every call we take? As fun as that sounds, we need to win that game as fast as possible. Help us find those pesky numbers on your homes and businesses by making them as prominent as possible.

Somervell County first responders do a phenomenal job of rescuing people who end up in life-threatening situations while enjoying tubing, swimming and kayaking on the Brazos and Paluxy rivers, but you need to know there are ways you should help as well. Take advantage of the two life jacket loaner stations that the Somervell County Fire Department has in place. One station is at Big Rocks State Park in Glen Rose, and the other is at Wheeler Branch Reservoir north of town. Safety experts recommend that those enjoying water activities should always wear a personal floatation device and avoid the use of alcohol in order to make life-saving rescues less necessary. Somervell County Fire Chief Mark Crawford said that his department accepts donated life jackets to add to the loaner stations, as well as monetary donations to purchase new ones.

Although the house is a total loss; no occupants were in the residence upon arrival, nor was anyone injured.

Attitude

Attitude.

"When I was Squad 2's Captain, it was never a question of if we were going to catch a fire that day - it was a question of when and how many. I was proud to work with a bunch of firefighters who loved coming to work and loved serving the citizens of Chicago.

One night, I asked another company officer to trade into my tour so I could go to a family event. Catching up with him later I asked him how the night treated him. He told me, 'Pat, we got crushed. We were going to our 3rd or 4th fire at 3am and all I wanted to do was go home and go to bed. When I looked back at the men though, they were motivated. They looked like they were going to a ballgame!' The covering officer learned what I already knew - the men of Squad 2 would fight fire all day and night and still be ready to go. That had nothing to do with their skill and experience. It had everything to do with their attitude.

As a firefighter and a company officer, I always wanted to work with people who had great attitudes. As a Chief, it is the first quality that I look for in people who work for me. Wherever you work, your citizens expect you to be the best and do your best. I think that wherever you work, you need to believe that you work in the best company on the best fire department in the world. If you don't believe that and live it, the individual, the company, and the department can never achieve true potential. I've known a lot of firemen from all over the country, and the great ones all have one thing in common - they love this job, and they aren't afraid to show it."

Thank you again Somervell County Fire Department for coming to help rescue our 14yo lab yesterday! I didnt know who to call but I knew my 8yo and I werent going to be able to get her out of that mess ourselves! Lol You guys went above and beyond going knee deep in the mud and getting her into the wheelbarrow from the pasture back to the house. Y'all werent around but we stopped by to drop off a couple cases of water and some laundry detergent in your break room earlier. Our dog is doing great and we appreciated your help so much!
Thanks for everything today! Y'all made their day!

Just want to take a moment and say thank you to the fire dept here in Somervell County! Not for any incident in particular, just a general note of thanks for the community service the fire fighters and the dept does on a daily basis, you are appreciated!
Any news on the head-on crash from Saturday the 16th?
Thank you, sir for taking the time to say hi and snap a picture with my children. My son, Weston (left) loves firemen and says he’s gonna one day be one. Thank you also for keeping our little community safe. 🚒
Thank you for all that you do and all that you are... your strength and courage can't be matched. Thank you for keeping us safe!
Please be careful when traveling SH 67 either coming or going out of Glen Rose. TXDOT has removed the cones from southbound 67 as the green steel bridge is now reopened. BUT - they have not corrected the yellow center line markings. I just witnessed 4 cars veer left like we've all been doing the last 8+ months and the lead car was almost in a head-on collision on the Northbound bridge as they were traveling Southbound. Just missed a head on by mere feet. I called 911 to get them to fix this immediately, they said they've called TXDOT but they were not there. TXDOT is going to get someone killed tonight or tomorrow. If you're traveling Northbound on SH 67 - stay in the far right lane all the way or you're putting your life in eminent danger.
I was watching my hometown go under water when I had the pleasure of getting on a rescue boat with a few of your guys. I apologize but I cannot remember their names. I do know one of them was the Deputy Fire Marshall and I believe the other was Troy and his cousin. I know I speak for everyone when I say thank you.
Does anyone know if there is a burn ban in place right now?
