The County Clerk serves as the official record keeper for Somervell County. The office maintains all Real Records and also serve as the Local Registrar. The office issues marriage licenses, birth, and death records on behalf of the State Registrar. The clerk's office is proactive in digitizing records from 1875 to the present and must record, maintain and preserve historic records according to the Texas State Library rules and regulations. The clerk also plays a major part in the Judicial Court System in processing Civil, Misdemeanor Criminal, Probate, Guardianship and Juvenile cases.
The District Clerk is also proactive in digitizing old records to make them more readily available to the public by providing public access computers in our office during normal business hours. The district clerk's office is an integral part of the judicial system. The Clerk handles the many aspects of Civil, Family and Felony Criminal cases along with coordinating juries, escheating funds to the Texas Comptroller and also assisting the Attorney General in IV-D court.
