Press Release

11-7-2025

Somervell County Water District (SCWD) has received a request from Sailfish Investors to annex a 2,101 acre tract into Somervell County Water District for purposes of constructing power generating facilities as well as the Comanche Circle Data Center Campus. A presentation of the request was made to the SCWD Board of Directors on July 14, 2025 and can be heard on the District’s website at scwd.com beginning at the 45 second mark.

It is logical that SCWD would be asked to supply water for the project as we are by far the closest water utility to the proposed project. The SCWD response to Sailfish Investors was the same that it has given to all other proposed Data Center projects that have approached the District. The response is that we do not currently have either the water rights capacity or the treatment capacity to facilitate taking on such a project. The Districts current water capacity is committed to its existing tax base and customers.

This project lies within Somervell County’s Paluxy River water shed and the Trinity aquifer recharge zone so the District is certainly interested in having input with regard to the projects water source. Sailfish has given the District the opportunity to provide water service to the project and has agreed to provide 100% of the funds necessary for a “stand alone” project that includes additional water rights, treatment facilities, water distribution and all planning design costs in the event this project moves forward.

The SCWD Board of Directors is committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of water planning for Somervell County and feel that this project will better serve the citizens of Somervell County if we are involved in the decision making process with regard to water and how our precious resources are utilized.

If this project does materialize, it is estimated to add an additional $26.6 billion dollars (5 times our existing tax base) to the SCWD tax base which will help ensure SCWD’s ability to properly serve the water needs of Somervell County for years to come.
