Glen Rose is best known as the “Dinosaur Capital of Texas,” but is much more than that. Glen Rose has been a popular tourist destination since the early 1900s. In addition to the beautiful scenery, rolling hills and rivers, the Glen Rose area had hundreds of natural springs. Water flowed from the springs and were heavily laden with minerals and believed to have healing powers. Glen Rose is still a popular tourist destination with the rolling hills and rivers, but we have added several family attractions over the years including Dinosaur Valley State Park, Dinosaur World and Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, just to name a few. Also, be sure and visit our Historic Courthouse Square. Home to quaint shops, restaurants and lodging, it provides a the feel of a nostalgic feel, that few towns can still claim. As for those hills and rivers that first put Glen Rose on the map, they are still here. In additional to the natural beauty, visitors will find opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, wildlife viewing, kayaking, canoeing or just kicking back and enjoying a sunset.

Nearest big city: Fort Worth, TX

Known as the Dinosaur Capital of Texas, Glen Rose is definitely for those who want a slow and steady life. Visit the locals who sell fresh produce from their gardens or take walks in the adjacent neighborhoods where you can find huge pecan stands lining the road. The bed & breakfasts all exude southern charm, with some of the homes dating back to the turn of last century. And make sure you visit Loco Coyote: a true Texas BBQ secret. For the outdoor folks, be sure to visit Big Rocks Park—located on the Paluxy River, this park has plenty of rocks for children to climb and shady areas for families to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Just down the road from Glen Rose is Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, a wildlife sanctuary (the fifth biggest of its kind in the world) that saves endangered species.

WETTER before BETTER!
Rounds of RAIN on the way.
Today will see a fairly high coverage of rain with a north wind and temps again in the 40s. There may be a bit less coverage in the morning but it will increase as the atmosphere continues to lift ahead of a storm in the southwestern US.
That storm will break free and head into Texas overnight and into Wednesday morning with moderate rain...and a few storms (heaviest rain eastern counties). It looks to end near noon, and we might even see a ray of sun late in the day. Temps will rise back to near 50.
A good Canadian cold front drops in Thursday morning with some gusty north winds and temps struggling to get back to 50...even with a decent amount of sun. Looks like we'll drop into the 20s at night as winds diminish.
Valentine's Day starts cold, but ends "cool" with a breeze...in the 50s with partly sunny skies.
Winds pick up from the south this weekend. That will draw clouds back in, but also give us milder air. Near 60 Saturday and into the 60s Sunday. Rain chances are very low...maybe a shower or two at night.
Early next week starts warm BUT we could also see an increase in rain chances, especially by mid-week.

Partly to mostly sunny Saturday with a high in the low 60s. Clouds roll in Saturday night with scattered showers Sunday. A better chance of showers/t-storms Sunday evening as a cold front rolls through. Behind the front, it turns much cooler with more rain moving in Tuesday and showers/t-storms on Wednesday.

Temperatures tonight will fall into the teens and twenties across much of the region. This may result in freezing of standing water on bridges and overpasses. However, where snow and ice already cover roadways, in particular along and west of a Bowie to Cisco line, roads will remain treacherous through the night. Be cautious driving tonight and Thursday morning.

02/05/2020

Due to inclement weather in our region, Knox Waste Service, our local trash service provider, will not run today (Wednesday). Service should resume as normal Thursday. We have been notified that they should be caught up by Friday! If your trash is normally picked up on Wednesday and Thursday please leave your containers curbside until services has been provided. Thank you.

Ready to FLIP back to "winter" (ok, winter in Texas, not Minnesota!)
Warm and humid air continues today, although there's less fog this morning because the moisture is now in place. While we can't rule out a passing shower (mainly NW), cloudy skies rule, although there should be some breaks in the afternoon to push temps well into the 60s to near 70.
A storm system in the desert SW will move toward Texas tomorrow with decent lift in the atmosphere. There may be scattered showers and storms in the morning before a Pacific cold front crosses the area in the afternoon. That will also generate a line of showers and storms, some with gusty winds. They should exit most areas by sunset, leaving a drier evening. Highs in the 60s.
A second cold front will blow through Sunday morning. Gusty NW winds will keep temps in the 50s, even with sun returning in the afternoon after morning clouds.
We end 2019 Monday and Tuesday with "normal" temps in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
While New Years Eve looks dry and cool (40s), our next storm will be developing out to the west for New Years Day. Increasing clouds and potentially some light rain with highs in the 50s may turn into more widespread rain by Thursday.
