🎬 Lights, Camera, Action in Glencoe!

Today we have the pleasure of welcoming the film production crew from Jacksonville State University to the Glencoe Public Safety Building as they worked on a student film project.

Students from JSU’s film program spent time on location capturing scenes and gaining hands-on experience in real-world production environments. Programs like this allow students to develop creative ideas from concept to final product while learning the many roles involved in filmmaking and production. (Jacksonville State University)

We’re always proud to support educational opportunities and community partnerships, and it was great to see these talented students bringing their creativity to Glencoe. Our team enjoyed helping them bring their project to life and showing them a little of what happens inside a public safety building.

Best of luck to the cast and crew — we can’t wait to see the finished film! 🎥

The Glencoe Police Department proudly congratulates Captain Kip Williams on his graduation from the Southeastern Leadership Command College (SLCC) at Jacksonville State University. This prestigious, executive-level program brings together public safety leaders from across the region to strengthen leadership capacity, decision-making, and collaboration in today’s complex operating environments.

Throughout the Command College, Captain Williams engaged in advanced leadership instruction focused on topics such as ethical and adaptive leadership, organizational accountability, strategic planning, emotional intelligence, and interagency cooperation. These lessons are directly applicable to modern law enforcement and reinforce the importance of leading with integrity, clarity of purpose, and service to both personnel and the community.

The graduation ceremony featured a keynote address by Attorney General Steve Marshall, who emphasized principled leadership, public trust, and the responsibility carried by those serving in public safety roles across Alabama.

🚔 Traffic Safety Notice – Student Pick-Up Areas 🚸

The Glencoe Police Department was recently contacted by Glencoe School Officials regarding traffic safety concerns during student dismissal times on Outlaw Place, Oliver Street, and Stone Street.

School officials reported an ongoing issue with parents stopping or parking in the roadway on these roads while waiting for student dismissal and to pick up students who were walking. Parking or waiting in the roadway is not permitted unless in the designated school pickup line. This creates a serious safety hazard by blocking traffic lanes, reducing visibility, and placing students and motorists at increased risk of injury.

At the request of the school system, officers will be monitoring these areas to help improve traffic flow and ensure the safety of students, parents, and the motoring public.

We would like to clarify that this concern originated from the School, and the Glencoe Police Department was not contacted by Glencoe Methodist Church regarding this matter.

We respectfully ask all parents and guardians to use designated pick-up areas and avoid stopping or waiting in the roadway. Your cooperation plays a critical role in keeping our students safe.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping us protect our community’s children.

Incident Resolved Safely in Glencoe

The Glencoe Police Department responded to a call for service involving an individual who was irate and requested to speak with an officer.

Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male who was irate and displayed a firearm. Officers immediately disengaged for safety reasons and requested assistance from the Southside Police Department and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office. A mental health officer also responded to the scene.

The subject subsequently retreated inside the residence with the firearm. Due to the nature of the incident, Glencoe Police requested the response of the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG).

After JSOG arrived on scene, negotiators established contact with the subject inside the residence. Following several hours of negotiations, officers were able to safely convince the subject to exit the home without further incident.

The male subject was transported to a local hospital by AMed Ambulance Service and was accompanied by a mental health officer for further evaluation.

“This incident was resolved professionally and safely,” said Chief Kenon McKenzie. “We are thankful for the cooperation between agencies and are grateful that all officers involved were able to go home safely.”

Only minor injuries were reported to the male subject. The Glencoe Police Department would like to thank all assisting agencies for their professionalism and teamwork during this incident.

🚨 Arrest Made in Burglary and Theft Cases 🚨

On September 30th, 2025, officers with the Glencoe Police Department were serving an active arrest warrant at a residence located on West Main Street in Glencoe.

Upon entry into the residence, officers observed in plain view a firearm that had previously been reported stolen with the Glencoe Police Department. The firearm was secured as evidence.

Based on the discovery of the stolen firearm and ongoing investigations into recent burglaries of local storage units, officers obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence on October 1st, 2025. During the search, additional items of stolen property were located and recovered, which were consistent with property reported missing in the recent storage unit burglary cases.

Trace Self, 26, of Wellington, Alabama, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Etowah County Detention Center for processing on the listed charges: Burglary, Theft of Property, and Criminal Mischief.

"I want to personally thank all of the officers and investigators of the department for their hard work and dedication during this case. Your commitment to serving and protecting our city continues to make a difference every day.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the citizens of Glencoe for your continued support and trust in our department. Working together, we can keep our community safe and strong." stated Chief McKenzie.

Chief McKenzie would also like to remind residents to keep an itemized list of property placed in storage units, along with serial numbers, photographs, or identifying marks when possible. This information greatly assists law enforcement in the recovery and return of stolen items if a theft or burglary occurs. Taking a few minutes to document your belongings can make a big difference in protecting your property.
