Zoning Commission Public Hearing - Planned Development Ordinance Review

The Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. on September 14th at Glencoe Village Hall to take public comments on a proposed Zoning Code amendment to create a Planned Development (PD) process. A PD process is a tool that can be used to allow for flexibility from certain zoning and development requirements to encourage larger, more impactful development projects to provide design enhancements to the Village, such as high-quality architecture and design, environmental protection, desired housing types, and economic development.

A draft ordinance is available for review at villageofglencoe.org/zoning. The Zoning Commission will take public comments at this hearing. At the end of the public hearing process, the Zoning Commission will make a recommendation on the proposed ordinance to the Village Board, which will make a final decision at a later meeting.

For questions or to provide written public comments for the Zoning Commission, please email Development Services at [email protected].

Hydrant Flushing This Month

The Public Works Department is continuing its annual hydrant flushing program this month. This is a preventative maintenance program done annually to flush water mains and ensure fire hydrants are working properly. It is common for residents to experience discolored water after this process. This is no cause for concern, simply run cold water until it clears. For questions, contact Water Distribution Supervisor Frank Colletti at (847) 461-1652.

RUBY SAYS.... Help Save Migratory Birds: Join “Lights Out” This Fall!
Did you know that Glencoe sits directly beneath one of North America’s busiest avian flyways? Every autumn, millions of birds travel through our region at night. Unfortunately, bright artificial lights from our homes and buildings disorient these birds, leading to fatal window collisions. The Sustainability Task Force is asking all residents to participate in the “Lights Out” initiative, which runs from August 15 through November 15. By making a few small changes, you can help provide a safe passage for these spectacular travelers. Let’s work together to keep our night skies safe for migration. Thank you for helping our village protect local wildlife!

As a reminder, this is the LAST WEEKEND to enjoy Glencoe Beach before construction starts on September 8.

🚧 ℹ️ No Public Access During Glencoe Beach Construction
To ensure public safety and allow crews to work efficiently, Glencoe Beach will be closed to the public starting Tuesday, September 8, 2026. The closure will continue through the fall, winter, and spring, with a planned reopening in May 2027.
The lower access road and the stairs leading from the Halfway House to the waterfront will be completely closed for the duration of the project. The upper portion of the road, above the Halfway House, will be closed to all traffic during construction hours, from 7 AM to 4 PM on weekdays.
Pedestrian access to the upper road for walkers and runners is permitted after 4 PM on weekdays and during weekends.
For your safety, please follow all posted signs and stay away from fenced areas. Construction vehicles will be traveling through the area frequently. Follow all posted signs and stay outside the fenced areas. This will keep you safe and help the project stay on schedule.
