Scouting just got a little younger! 🐿️
We are thrilled to announce that our council is running an exclusive pilot program for Scouting America’s new Chipmunks program!
Designed specifically for children ages 4 and 5 (and their adult partners), Chipmunks features fun, playdate-style outdoor gatherings, friendly forest animal characters, and a gentle, sticker-based recognition system. It’s a wonderful, low-pressure way to introduce young kids to the adventure of Scouting before they jump into Lion and Cub Scouts!
• Who: Children ages 4–5 and an adult partner
• What: Storytelling, nature exploration, and play-based learning
Because this is a special pilot test program, spots are very limited! If you have a child this age or know a family who might be interested, please reach out to Brandon Fuster at the council office.

Volunteer Spotlight Tuesday
Every Tuesday, we’re proud to highlight one of the incredible volunteers who make Scouting possible across Verdugo Hills Council. Our volunteers dedicate their time, energy, and passion to guiding Scouts, leading adventures, and helping young people grow into confident leaders.

This award was presented at our 2026 Recognition Event and we are proud to share you the honoree introduction!

"The 2025 Scoutmaster of the Year Award is proudly awarded to Yumi Ashida, a visionary and deeply respected leader with Troop 118G.
For more than eight years, Yumi has tirelessly served both Troop 118B and Troop 118G, making a lasting impact on Scouts and adult leaders alike. She has been a crucial Assistant Scoutmaster for the boys’ troop and a champion for the girls’ troop since its founding, mentoring countless Scouts to Eagle and serving as a vital merit badge counselor for both troops. Her gentle wisdom, thoughtful guidance, and unwavering passion for youth development have shaped the Scouting journey of so many. Yumi’s counsel is always valued in troop decisions, and her vision and dedication to the girls’ troop continue to drive its success. Beyond the troop level, she has been an active leader at the Council level, serving multiple times on Wood Badge and NYLT staff, and this year she is serving as Scoutmaster for the girls’ troop in NYLT. Her steady leadership, generosity of spirit, and commitment to nurturing Scouts exemplify the best of Scouting. We are incredibly proud of Yumi and grateful for the countless ways she has inspired, guided, and empowered both Scouts and adult leaders throughout her years of service."

Thank you Pack 225 for having a table at Back to school night.

Stop by the Pack 225 Cub Scout Pack table at your local elementary school's back-to-school night on Thursday August 27th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm. Come say hello and learn how your scout can join us for a year of adventure, friendship, and fun! We'll have info on upcoming events, answers to all your questions, and maybe a few treats too. We can't wait to meet you!

Another fantastic Merit Badge Day is in the books!**

What a great day for Scouting! We had **80 Scouts sign up, and 78 Scouts showed up** ready to learn, have fun, and work toward earning their merit badges.

Even more exciting, Scouts joined us from **six different councils**! One Scout even made the drive all the way from **Temecula** to participate. That’s the kind of enthusiasm for Scouting we love to see!

💙 **A huge thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank** for hosting us. Your partnership and support of Scouting mean so much to our Scouts and our council. We are grateful for everything you do for our program and our community.

And, of course, **thank you to our amazing Merit Badge Counselors and volunteers!** You gave your time, knowledge, and energy to help Scouts learn new skills and take another step toward their goals. We couldn’t do these events without you!

📅 **Mark your calendars! Our next Merit Badge Day is December 5!**

This event will be managed, run, and hosted by **Gain Federal Credit Union**. Keep an eye out for registration information coming soon at vhscouting.org.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this Merit Badge Day such a success. We can’t wait to see everyone again in December!

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of longtime Scouter Don Peterson.

Don was a dedicated part of Scouting and a driving force behind Troop 201 at Magnolia Park United Methodist Church for many decades. As the charter Org Rep, Don helped shape Burbank Troop 201 and Pack 201. When the church later left Scouting, Don remained committed to our youth and to the Scouting program. He was truly the glue that helped keep the Pack and Troop connected and meeting at the church.

Don’s dedication to Scouting and to our youth was a shining example of what it means to be a true Scouter. His service, commitment, and friendship touched many lives, and his contributions to our Scouting community will not be forgotten.

Our deepest condolences go to the Peterson family during this difficult time. May they find comfort in knowing how much Don meant to the many Scouts, families, and Scouters whose lives he touched.

Thank you, Don, for your service to Scouting and for helping make a difference in the lives of our youth. You will be deeply missed.
