April is the Month of the Military Child!💜

Did you know? Military kids move an average of 6 to 9 times before finishing high school! That’s about three times more than their civilian peers.

Join us all month for all things Military child with fun interviews, events, trivia, and facts about their resilience and sacrifices.

School Liaison Officers and educators — this one is for you. 💜

A new military kid just walked into your building. Here's what helps most in those first weeks:

1️⃣ Assign a Go-To Person — one adult they can find without asking around. Have the adult do a few quick, private check-ins the first week weeks. Asking “How’s it going?” can catch issues before they grow either academically or socially.

2️⃣ Warm welcome without the spotlight! — Don't ask them to share their "military story" in front of the class unless they want to. Let them share on their own terms.

3️⃣ Share the Basics — Giving new students a guide to “how things work” at your school can help reduce first-week stress. Include the basics like bell schedules, lunch routines, tech logins, and how to get connected to sports and clubs.

4️⃣ Connect with Friendly Peers — Ideally, learn a little about their interests so you can match them with a few friendly students who are willing to sit by them at lunch and loop them into your school culture.

5️⃣ Get 24/7 Help at tutor.com/military — Offering flexible academic support early is key to helping a student get on track and close learning gaps. Address these issues privately and with parents! Remind them: if they're behind in a subject, it’s fixable. Tutor.com/military is free, available 24/7, and meets them exactly where they are.

The transition is hard. Your attention makes it easier.
