The Office of Arts & Culture, a division of Economic Development, visited six Glendale Elementary School District No 40 schools to announce the winners of the district-wide America250 Essay Contest for local fifth-grade students in celebration of America’s upcoming 250th birthday.

Councilmembers representing each school district attended the presentations, recognizing students with certificates and gift cards for their achievements. The city-wide grand prize winner will receive a certificate signed by the mayor, a $50 gift card, a family four-pack to Andretti Indoor Karting & Games, and the opportunity to read their essay during the Downtown Glendale America250 Celebration on June 20.

Calling all creatives! The City of Glendale is now accepting applications for the 2026–2027 Performing Arts Grant Program. Artists, organizations, schools, and colleges can apply for up to $4,000 in funding to support performances in music, theatre, dance, and spoken word.

Apply between April 1 and May 31, 2026

Performances must take place within Glendale city limits between September 2026 and August 2027
