This week is National Police Week, and tomorrow (May 15th) is Peace Officers Memorial Day. Peace Officers Memorial Day was established to honor those who became permanently disabled or who have given the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The holiday was authorized by Congress and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1962.

In honor of National Police Week, I would like to share a link to the monologue “Policeman” by renowned American radio broadcaster Paul Harvey. The monologue was inspired by Harvey’s father who was a police officer in Tulsa, OK and whom was killed in the line of duty. The monologue was first broadcast in 1970, and much of it is still relevant today.

Sheriff Ross Canen and I would also like to thank all of the men and women, past and present, that have served to keep their communities safe. And a special thank you to their families that have supported them in that endeavor.

Thank you,
Undersheriff Jake Feist
