Discover the history behind one of Gloucester Township’s most significant colonial landmarks during “Our Colonial Gabriel Daveis Tavern as a Business” on June 14th from 1PM–4PM at Gabriel Daveis Tavern (500 3rd Avenue). Learn about the Tavern’s operation from 1756–1767 under Gabriel Daveis and from 1767–1769 under his widow, Sarah Daveis, while exploring the important role the Tavern played within the community. Visitors will hear how the Tavern served as a hub for colonial travel by tidal creek and roadway, a place for food and rest, a center for news and communication, a post office, and a gathering place for Township officials during the colonial era.
