PLEASE UTILIZE CAUTION!!!

As of August 14, 2026, there is no official burn ban in effect for Rapides Parish. (Sabine put one in effect today, so, we probably aren't far from it).

Local fire officials urge extreme caution due to current dry and windy conditions.

To prevent incidents, residents are asked to practice responsible burning only.

Guidelines for responsible, common sense burning:

If you must conduct outdoor burning where permitted, please follow these safety protocols:

Burn Only Vegetation: Under Louisiana law, the only legal items for open burning are vegetative materials, such as leaves, tree branches, and grass clippings.

Maintain Control: Never leave a fire unattended. Ensure a water source or fire extinguisher is immediately available.

Monitor Weather: Avoid burning on high-wind days or during periods of low humidity, as conditions can change rapidly.

Contact Information

If you are unsure about current conditions in your specific area or need to report a concern, please contact your local fire department.

DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless reporting a fire out of control!

Note: If safe burning practices are not maintained, local officials may be forced to implement a mandatory burn ban to protect property and first responder safety.
