☀️ Summer in Valdez means long days, mild temps, and a great opportunity to save on energy!

Here are 4 tips to make the most of the season:
1. Take advantage of the daylight. With nearly 24 hours of light, rely on natural daylight instead of flipping on lights and switch off fixtures you don't need.
2. Mind your freezer and fridge. Summer is a good time to clean coils and check door seals. A fridge that runs efficiently is one of the easiest passive energy savers in your home.
3. Unplug what you're not using. Devices on standby still draw power. Unplug chargers, TVs, and small appliances when they're not in use; it adds up over time.
4. Lower your thermostat at night. Even in summer, Valdez nights get cool. Instead of letting your heat run on auto, drop the temp a few degrees and layer up.

In July, two of CVEA's Community Foundation scholarship winners, Ava Mitchell and Timothy Somers, traveled to represent CVEA at the Idaho Youth Rally. The rally brings together outstanding students from electric cooperatives to build leadership skills and learn about the cooperative business model.

We're proud to share that Timothy was selected as the delegate to represent Alaska in Washington, D.C. in 2027. Congratulations, Timothy! We can't wait to see you represent our state on the national stage!

The 2026 CVEA Community Foundation Nonprofit Contribution Season is open, and eligible nonprofits with educational, scientific, or charitable missions are encouraged to apply.
