Nearly a Decade of Heart, Impact & Cassie ❤️
Some people come into an organization and do a job.
Others become part of its story.
Since 2017, Cassie Segrell has been part of the heart of WAIT House, nearly a decade of showing up, making a difference, and leaving an impact on countless lives.
Cassie came to WAIT House with something that has always been at the center of who she is: a genuine desire to help people. Before joining our team, that desire had already taken her across the world. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she moved to Istanbul, Turkey, where she taught English and volunteered with a nonprofit serving Syrian refugees. When she returned home, she knew she wanted to continue making a difference, and thankfully, that path brought her to WAIT House.
What started in Street Outreach and Warren County Safe Harbour grew into years of leadership, advocacy, and service. Cassie eventually became Program Director of our Emergency Shelter Program and Transitional Living Program, helping guide not only our programs, but the staff and young people within them.
But nearly a decade at WAIT House cannot be summed up by job titles.
It is measured in the young people who knew they had someone in their corner because Cassie showed up.
In the difficult conversations she never walked away from. The victories she celebrated. The tears, laughter, long days, late nights, challenges, and countless moments most people will never see.
It is measured in young people who felt heard, families who felt supported, staff who learned from her, and lives that took a different direction because someone believed in them.
Cassie has touched more lives than she will probably ever know.
And now, after nearly a decade of giving her heart to this work, her next chapter is taking her across the world once again.
Thankfully, this is not goodbye.
While Cassie may be moving away, she isn’t leaving the WAIT House family. She will continue working with WAIT House remotely, sharing her experience, knowledge, and heart with the organization she has given so much to. And, of course, we fully expect visits whenever she makes her way back home.
Cassie, there simply aren’t enough words to thank you for nearly a decade of choosing this work, choosing our young people, and choosing WAIT House.
You have helped shape who we are.
You have left pieces of your heart throughout this organization and throughout our community, and you are taking a whole lot of ours with you.
We are incredibly proud of you and excited for everything waiting for you in this next adventure.
Nearly a decade of impact and still going strong. ❤️
This isn’t goodbye. It’s simply, “See you soon.”
