Yesterday, October 6th, in the late afternoon, there was an attempted vehicle theft in the 500 block of Soose Rd in Shaler Township. The resident reported that they heard noise in their driveway. When they looked outside, they observed four actors, all of whom appeared to be young. The resident yelled at them and they drove off.
Upon reviewing surveillance video at this residence, two of the actors had gotten out of the car they arrived in and entered the victim's car. When the resident yelled, they jumped out of the vehicle, got into the vehicle they arrived in, and sped away south on Soose Rd. The vehicle they arrived in was reported stolen from Penn Hills and was later dumped in Wilkins Twp and located unoccupied.
It is obviously very bold to do this during daylight hours. In speaking with other municipal police departments, this appears to be a newer trend.
We advise that if you happen to be involved in a similar incident, you should not approach or engage with these individuals. Contact 911 immediately and attempt to obtain descriptions if able to safely do so.
Always keep your vehicles locked, windows up, with no valuables in view.
