In a healthy and peaceful world, in the year 2236, the tribe gathers around the fire to initiate the next watch of the Guardians of the Poison Fire. What kind of Guardian are you?

Our explorations of Zsanna Bird River’s book will take us to a broader consideration of Guardianship Consciousness. Also joining us will be Kathleen Rude and Kathleen Sullivan, two experienced Nuclear Guardians who have worked closely with Joanna Macy and her vision of the Nuclear Guardianship ethic. Join us to share about what you protect and what challenges and inspires you.

The Work That Reconnects has its roots in the late 1970s, when it seemed that humanity – along with much of life on earth – stood on the brink of devastation. The nuclear arms race was accelerating and the use of nuclear energy production was advancing.

What began as a group process called “Despair and Empowerment Work” to support activists to move through denial and despair over the escalating global crisis, has evolved into the familiar group structures we see in WTR workshops today.

Joanna Macy often expressed the need for responsible stewardship of nuclear waste or what we call the “Poison Fire.” In doing so, she shared her vision of establishing guardianship sites where nuclear power plants and their waste deposits currently stand.

This Saturday, June 20, Zsanna Sebesteny will present her book: Guardians of the Poison Fire which emerged from working with Guardianship Consciousness. Zsanna will be accompanied by Kathleen Rude and Kathleen Sullivan, two experienced Nuclear Guardians who have worked closely with Joanna Macy and her vision of the Nuclear Guardianship ethic.

We hope you will join us for this important conversation.
