This week is National Police Week, a time when we honor officers lost in the line of duty, while also recognizing those who protect and serve our community.
We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and thank those who now wear the badge, for their dedication and courage in keeping Glenwood safe.

The Glenwood Police and Fire Department were honored to be recognized by Brookwood School District 167 for our community partnership programs with the schools and students.
Our programs include our Lunch with First Responders, Cops and Bobbers, Back to School Bash, safety drills, and many other engagements.
These programs build positive relationships between our area youth and their local first responders.

“Flash Mobs/Teen Takeovers”

As we head into the spring & summer season, the likelihood of large gatherings will increase, and these events are not exclusive to Glenwood. Gatherings for parties such as graduations and birthdays have the potential to quickly escalate in size and can rapidly grow out of control due to the speed and simplicity of social media posts and texting.
The Glenwood Police Department encourages parents, guardians, and homeowners to talk to their children, family members, and guests about these hazards and to partner with the police department, their neighbors, and the community to prevent these disturbances from happening.

Parents, Guardians, and Property owners can be held liable and risk arrest and/or significant fines.
Call 9-1-1 IF THIS IS OCCURING:
• Call 9-1-1- if you observe any of the following circumstances:
o Property damage
o Fights or aggressive behavior/language
o People jumping on vehicles or trespassing
o Loud, disorderly conduct spilling into streets or yards
• Stay indoors and remain calm.
• Secure your property by locking doors and windows, closing your garage door, and bringing in any valuables from outside.
• If possible and safe to do so, record video or take photos that may help law enforcement, but do not put yourself in harm’s way.
DO NOT:
• Do not engage or confront the group, these situations can escalate quickly.
• Do not attempt to break up the gathering yourself. Leave that to Law Enforcement
• Do not circulate unverified information online. Misinformation can cause unnecessary panic and hinder response efforts. Share official updates from trusted sources only.

Stay alert and aware of your surroundings, and act as extra eyes and ears for the Glenwood Police Department to help us maintain the safety and quality of life in the Village. If you would like to report a potential teen party location or suspicious activity, please call the Glenwood PD non-emergency line at 708-753-2420

Let's work together to keep our community safe, respectful, and fun for everyone.

The village has been notified that the State of Illinois’ project at 187th Street and Chicago Heights-Glenwood Road is set to resume next week.
We know this project has caused disruptions and detours for everyone. Our recent conversations with the contractors have us optimistic that the finish line may finally be in sight.
Beginning next week, please follow detour signs from Halsted Street to get to the east side of town. Work and changes in detour directions are expected to last through summer.
Please know that we share your frustrations, appreciate your patience and are working closely with the state and their contractors to see this important work through.
