Today is National Volunteer Firefighters Day, and we would like to celebrate the men and women who answer the call not because they have to, but because they choose to. Our members come from different backgrounds, have different jobs, families, schedules, and reasons for joining. But they all have one thing in common: Commitment to their community.
For 150 years, Glenwood Fire Department has been here for the community we call home. From fire suppression and prevention to vehicle incidents, rescues, flooding, severe weather and countless other calls for service, our volunteers give their time, training and energy to help protect their neighbors when they need it most.
And volunteering isn't just about responding to an alarm.
It's about training.
It's about teamwork.
It's about helping at events.
It's about maintaining equipment and apparatus.
It's about supporting the firehouse and the people inside it.
It's about building friendships and becoming part of something bigger than yourself.
Glenwood Fire Department offers opportunities for people to become involved in help serve their community. Maybe you've always wanted to try it. Maybe you've thought about volunteering but never knew where to start. Maybe you've got a teenager who wants to learn, serve and be part of a team. This could be your sign.
On National Volunteer Firefighters Day, we want to say THANK YOU to every member who has ever given their time to Glenwood and to the families, friends and employers who support them along the way. Your time matters. Your service matters. You matter.
Could you be one of them?
