National Do Not Call Registry

GA No Call List
Georgia residential consumers who want to reduce the number of unwanted telemarketing calls
from telephone solicitors trying to get you to purchase, rent or invest in property, goods or
services are encouraged to register with the free Federal Do Not Call Registry.
Consumers are placed on the Georgia Do Not Call List free of charge simply by registering their
phone numbers with the Federal Registry. You may register your phone number with the federal
list online at www.donotcall.gov or by calling toll-free, 1-888-382-1222, TTY 1-866-290-4236
from the number you wish to register.
While being on the Do Not Call Registry may significantly reduce the number of unwanted
solicitations you receive, it will not prevent you from receiving calls from:
(1) Businesses that have an established relationship with you. An established
relationship exists if you have purchased, leased or rented goods or services from
the business within 18 months preceding the call, or if you have submitted an
application or made an inquiry to the business within the three months preceding
the call;
(2) Recognized charitable or religious organizations; or
(3) Political pollsters or candidates for public office.
Federal law requires telemarketers to search the Registry every 31 days and synchronize their
call lists with the phone numbers that are on the Registry. If you receive telemarketing calls after
you have registered your telephone number and it has been in the Registry for 31 days, you can
file a complaint at DONOTCALL.GOV or by calling 1-888-382-1222, TTY 1-866-290-4236.
You will have to know the company’s name or phone number to file a “do not call” complaint.

Wheeler County Schools awarded $5000 FRS Community Grant sponsored by Glenwood Telephone Company and South Georgia Broadband, Inc.

November 22, 2019 — Wheeler County Schools has been awarded a $5000 Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) Community Grant to provide a new Aquaponics STEM system and curriculum, sponsored by Glenwood Telephone Company (GTC). Additional commitments of up to $2000 from GTC and up to $2500 from South Georgia Broadband, Inc. is also being provided to help ensure the program's success.

This year, FRS awarded $100,000 via 26 grants to advance quality of life and enable economic development in rural America. This access to broadband-enabled solutions will improve educational offerings, local job markets, the ability to provide telemedicine, first response emergency services, and more.

From establishing a cybersecurity skills summer camp for high schoolers to providing modern technology to the volunteer fire department, FRS grants make an impact across rural America. For a complete list of awardees, click here.

Pam Becker, Executive Director of FRS said, "The Foundation for Rural Service is so humbled by the work of our grant awardees. It is an honor to just to hear their stories of collaboration with and dedication to the communities they serve. We are grateful for their hard work, the amazing Telco’s that endorsed them and our generous donors that contribute to the grant program."

The Wheeler County Schools Aquaponics STEM Initiative, whose goal is to expand the existing award-winning Agricultural Instruction program to include vertical farming instruction, STEM instruction across various disciplines and in the future provide food harvests to the community in one of the poorest counties in the United States. The initiative will allow the County’s school system to differentiate itself by providing state-of-the-art agricultural and STEM instruction above and beyond what is available in the surrounding areas and school systems.

“We were extremely happy to work with Wheeler County Schools on this grant application and were happy to sponsor their application,” says Jim O’Brien, Executive VP of GTC and South Georgia Broadband, Inc. “We believe investing and partnering with Education is the primary path towards solving the myriad of issues facing Wheeler County citizens, such as economic opportunity and income inequality,” continues Mr. O’Brien, “and by providing State-of-the-art technology programs like aquaponics, the Wheeler County Aquaponics STEM Initiative will provide hands-on learning in disciplines such as Agriculture, Biology, Chemistry and Math”.

President of GTC and South Georgia Broadband, Inc., Janice E. O’Brien says, “Rural investment policy must focus on Education and growing human capital in order to attract business and keep the young talent in our community. We challenge other community businesses to think outside the box and while we have local control of our school system listen to our schools needs and invest in STEM curriculum which makes sense in our community such as agriculture, land use management, computer science, and automation.”

The Foundation for Rural Service (FRS) was established in 1994 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association and plays a unique role within the telecommunications industry by supporting rural telecom companies, consumers and policymakers with educational information, products and programming.
