Another great Dog Days of Summer is in the books!
Thank you to everyone who came out for hot dogs and friendship - we enjoyed seeing everyone!

A big thank you to Rachel Pierce from One Goal Mortgage and Emily Swinford from Square Deal Real Estate, along with their crew and friends!! None of this is possible without their hard work and dedication to our veteran community.

Another big thank you to the Mills County Veterans Affairs Commissioners - they are some of the hardest working Commissioners in the state of Iowa. Whether they are grilling the hot dogs, cleaning up, or meeting with veterans, they are always ready and willing to serve our veterans. We are proud to work with Jim Schoening, Paul Hathaway, Jess Cook, Jeanne Wilkins, and Yolanda Hardesty as our Commissioners. Thank you for all you guys do!

March in the America 250-IA Veterans Day at the
Iowa State Fair Parade

To honor those most responsible for 250 years of American independence, this year's Veterans Day at the Iowa State Fair Parade on Aug. 17 will celebrate America 250-IA by honoring the veteran-patriots of every U.S. conflict.
The Iowa State Fair is also seeking veterans, service members, and first responders to perform the traditional daily 10:00 a.m. National Anthem throughout the Fair as a special America 250-IA opportunity.
America was conceived in conflict. From the home-grown militia that started it all at Lexington and Concord in 1775, to today's most advanced military the world has ever known, no one is more responsible for America's very existence than the effort and sacrifice of the individual warrior-patriot—united with others just like them in a common cause. Those few earn the title 'veteran,' and currently, about 177,000 of them call Iowa home.
Presented by the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs (IDVA) and the Iowa National Guard, organizers are calling on all Iowa veterans, military organizations, and community supporters to join the procession on the Grand Concourse. Whether marching to represent a specific era of service, playing in a band, or showing a community's support, all are encouraged to join the lineup or gather along the route to celebrate 250 years of American resilience.

How to Join the Parade Lineup:
Applications are open now. Interested participants can download the entry form directly at the event page on the department's website or the "Join the Lineup!" button to the right. The application is located in the alert banner at the top of the homepage and under the "Related Files" section.

A Daily Tribute: Volunteer to Perform the National Anthem:

Each morning of the Fair at 10:00 a.m., the anthem is broadcast across the Fairgrounds, marking the official start of the day. This year, it is a special opportunity for talented veterans, military members, and first responders to step up to the microphone and be recognized. Those with the vocal or musical talent to lead the Fair in this patriotic honor are invited to apply. Participation is open to volunteers representing recognized law enforcement agencies, military units, veteran organizations, honor guards, and affiliated ensembles.
