Dear Residents,

​Due to prolonged dry conditions, low humidity, and an increased risk of wildfire, the Town of Gloster, in coordination with the Fire Department, has issued an immediate Burn Ban effective as of 2/23/2026 until further notice.

​The safety of our community is our top priority. Under these current conditions, even a small spark can lead to a rapidly spreading fire that threatens lives and property.

***Thompson turned himself in to the Amite County jail at approximately 8pm without incident.***

WANTED: MURKELIN THOMPSON

CHARGES:
* ATTEMPTED MURDER
* AGGRAVATED ASSAULT
* SHOOTING INTO DWELLING

MURKELIN THOMPSON is wanted in connection to a shooting which occurred in Gloster on November 1, 2025 resulting in severe injury to an innocent victim and causing damage to several homes.

Thompson is to be considered armed and dangerous, DO NOT APPROACH. If you have any information about the whereabouts of Murkelin Thompson, please contact Gloster Police Department, Amite County Sheriff's Department, or CrimeStoppers. Your assistance is greatly appreciated in this matter.

Dear Resident/Customer,

​We are pleased to inform you that the Boil Water Advisory / Water Notice issued on December 25, 2025 has been officially lifted, effective immediately.

​Testing and laboratory results have confirmed that the town’s water supply once again meets all safety standards and is safe for all normal use, including drinking, cooking, and ice making.
