‼️STATEMENT FROM THE CHAIRMAN‼️
Why the Gloucester City Republican Committee Endorsed Independent Mayor Dayl Baile
As Chairman of the Gloucester City Republican Committee, I would like to explain our decision to endorse Independent Mayor Dayl Baile for reelection and encourage Gloucester City residents to support him this November.
First, I want to make one thing perfectly clear: Mayor Baile did not solicit, request, or seek our endorsement. This decision originated entirely within our committee. After consideration, our voting members unanimously agreed to endorse Mayor Baile for another term.
As the appointed Chairman of the Gloucester City Republican Committee, I do not have a vote in committee matters. My role was to formally issue and communicate the unanimous decision of our voting membership.
Our committee initially worked to recruit a Republican candidate for Mayor. We identified two strong prospective candidates, but both were ultimately prevented from running due to restrictions under the federal Hatch Act, which limits certain political activities of covered government employees.
Faced with a choice between supporting an Independent incumbent or allowing party affiliation alone to dictate our position, our committee chose to put Gloucester City first.
Mayor Baile has established a solid record of moving our city forward under challenging circumstances. Just as importantly, we believe his independence provides an opportunity for fair and balanced government, free from the expectation that decisions must serve the interests of a political party.
Fair governing means representing every resident of Gloucester City, regardless of political affiliation. It means listening to Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and those who have no interest in politics whatsoever. It means making decisions based on what is best for our neighborhoods, businesses, taxpayers, and families rather than what benefits a political organization.
Mayor Baile is a generational, life-long Gloucester City resident. He knows the history and the issues. He has served as Councilman, and currently as Mayor. He has decades of leadership experience in business and civic organizations.
His opponent did not grow up here, has much less knowledge of this City’s history, has limited private sector leadership experience, and is still less than a year into his first full term as a Councilman.
For too long, Gloucester City has operated under one-party Democrat control. We believe that keeping the Mayor’s seat independent provides an important balance in local government. It encourages accountability, promotes differing perspectives, and helps ensure that no single political organization has an unchecked claim to City Hall.
This is not about replacing Democrat control with Republican control. It is about ensuring that City Hall belongs to the residents of Gloucester City, not to any political party.
Our streets, public safety, municipal services, taxes, and economic development are not Republican or Democrat issues. They are Gloucester City issues, and they deserve to be addressed on their merits.
I am proud to be a Republican, and I remain committed to building a strong Republican organization in Gloucester City. But I also recognize that responsible leadership sometimes means looking beyond party labels and supporting the person we believe is best suited to serve our community.
Our unanimous endorsement of Independent Mayor Dayl Baile reflects that belief.
I respectfully encourage residents of every political affiliation to consider Mayor Baile’s record, his independence, and his commitment to our city when casting their votes.
Gloucester City is our home, not a political prize. Its future should always come before party loyalty.
Vote Column 5 for Mayor. Reelect Mayor Dayl Baile for a “STRONGER GLOUCESTER TOGETHER”!
Sincerely,
Jason Fanning
